Ben Hunt-Davis
(Francis) Benedict Hunt-Davis MBE (born 15 March 1972) is a former British competition rower and an Olympic champion. He was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire in the 2001 New Year Honours list. Early life Hunt-Davis was educated at Shiplake College, Henley-on-Thames in Oxfordshire. He is the son of Anita and Miles Hunt-Davis, a British Army officer. Rowing career Hunt-Davis competed at the 1992 Barcelona games and the 1996 Atlanta games, and won a silver medal in the 1999 World Rowing Championships. He won a gold medal in the Men's VIIIs at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, as a member of the British rowing team, the first British crew to have won this event since 1912. Order Of The British Empire
The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire is a British order of chivalry, rewarding contributions to the arts and sciences, work with charitable and welfare organisations, and public service outside the civil service. It was established on 4 June 1917 by King George V and comprises five classes across both civil and military divisions, the most senior two of which make the recipient either a knight if male or dame if female. There is also the related British Empire Medal, whose recipients are affiliated with, but not members of, the order.
