Ben Hill County is a county located in the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 census, the population was 17,194. The county seat is Fitzgerald. The county was organized in 1906. It is named after Benjamin Harvey Hill, a former Confederate and United States Senator. Ben Hill County comprises the Fitzgerald, Georgia, Micropolitan Statistical Area. The Ben Hill County Courthouse and Ben Hill County Jail are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History The timber industry became important in the county in the early 20th century. After the market changed, some workers moved on to other locations, including Florida. Development of citrus production in large groves had increased the demand for workers. Geography According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of , of which is land and (1.5%) is water. The majority of Ben Hill County, its northern and eastern portions, are located in the Lower Ocmulgee River sub-basin of the Altamaha River basin. ...

Ben Hill County Courthouse is the historic county courthouse of Ben Hill County, Georgia, located in Fitzgerald. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places on September 18, 1980. It is located at East Central Avenue at South Sheridan Street. History Ben Hill County was created from parts of Irwin and Wilcox counties in 1907, and Fitzgerald was selected as the county seat.Wilber W. State Route 125 (SR 125) is a state highway that runs south-to-north in an S-shape through the southern part of the U.S. state of Georgia. It travels through Lowndes, Lanier, Berrien, Tift, Irwin, and Ben Hill counties connecting the Valdosta and Fitzgerald metropolitan areas. Route description SR 125 begins at an intersection with U.S. Route 41 (US 41) and SR 7 (Inner Perimeter Road) on the north side of Valdosta.
