Ben Hill is a neighborhood in the southwestern part of Atlanta, Georgia, United States. Ben Hill is a predominantly black community with many black-owned businesses. Location Ben Hill is located within the city limits of Southwest Atlanta. Its boundaries start south at Welcome All Road, expand North to Fairburn, and ending slightly before reaching unincorporated Fulton County right before Cascade Road. Its western boundaries start at Campbellton Road at Sand Creek and extend East to Hogan Road and ends slightly after Continental Colony Elementary before entering the city of East Point. History The Ben Hill area was first settled in the 1820s and was originally known as Mount Gilead Cross Roads. The Judge William Wilson House is located in Ben Hill, one of a handful of antebellum buildings in Atlanta. Metro Atlanta, designated by the United States Office of Management and Budget as the Atlanta–Sandy Springs–Alpharetta, GA Metropolitan Statistical Area, is the most populous metropolitan statistical area in the U.S. state of Georgia and the eighth-largest in the United States. Fulton County is located in the north-central portion of the U.S. state of Georgia. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 1,066,710, making it the state's most-populous county and its only one with over one million inhabitants. Neighborhood Planning Unit
The neighborhood planning unit (NPU) is a community-scale governmental structure used in the City of Atlanta, Georgia. History The system was established in 1974 by Atlanta's first black mayor, Maynard Holbrook Jackson. His aim was to ensure that citizens, particularly those who had been historically disenfranchised, would be in a position to comment on the structure of their communities, and to ensure that the citizens would not have this ability stripped of them by politicians who found an involved and engaged public inconvenient. Mayor Jackson had the NPU system placed within the City Charter, which can only be changed by the Georgia Legislature. East Point, Georgia
East Point is a suburban city located southwest of Atlanta in Fulton County, Georgia, Fulton County, Georgia (U.S. state), Georgia, United States. Judge William Wilson House
The Judge William Wilson House was an antebellum house in Atlanta, Georgia. It was built on land in a community west of Atlanta that was then called Adamsville which Wilson had inherited from his father William "Dollar Mill" Wilson (1775–1839) in 1839, and as the area around it developed came to be located in the Fairburn Heights neighborhood, a suburban area west of the Perimeter (I-285). At the end, it was one of only a few remaining antebellum structures still standing in its original location within the Atlanta city limits. The house was built in the Greek Revival style between 1856–1859 and was the main house of a plantation that, at twelve hundred acres, was one of the largest in the area. The house was used during the Battle of Atlanta by Union General William Tecumseh Sherman as a temporary headquarters. Greenbriar Mall
Greenbriar Mall is a shopping mall in the Greenbriar neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia that opened in 1965. The anchor stores are Beauty Master, Dollar Tree, Greenbriar Furniture, Macy's (closed April 2021), and Citi Trends. There are 2 vacant anchor stores that were once Burlington and Fallas. It is the home of the original Chick-fil-A location. Early years Greenbriar Center opened in August/September 1965 as Atlanta's third enclosed mall, after North Dekalb Center, in July 1965, and Columbia Mall, in August 1965. The mall was designed by Atlanta architect John Portman's firm Edwards and Portman. The design of the mall was like many of the early malls in Atlanta, with an anchor store on each end and an enclosed concourse. The complex opened with Rich's on the east end and JCPenney on the west. It was the second-largest suburban Rich's when it first opened.
