Nitza Ben-Dov
Nitza Ben-Dov ( he, ניצה בן-דב, née Fruchtman, born 10 March 1950) is Professor of Hebrew and Comparative literature, Comparative Literature at the University of Haifa. Winner of the 2021 Israel Prize Biography Nitza Ben-Dov was born in Tel Aviv to parents who were Holocaust survivors. Her father, Dov (Bernard) Fruchtman, was a teacher of literature and wrote a series of research studies on the oeuvre of S.Y. Agnon. Ben-Dov completed her secondary studies at the New High School (Tichon Hadash) in Tel Aviv in 1968. She served in the Israel Defense Forces (1968–1970) in the Nahal Brigade, at Nahal Golan. Ben-Dov studied Hebrew Literature and Biblical Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem from 1970 to 1973 and received a teaching certificate in 1974. Ilan Ben-Dov ( he, אילן בן-דב; born 16 January 1957, in Tel Aviv, Israel) is an Israeli businessman and investor. Business career Ilan Ben-Dov started in business at the age of 17, working as a games operator at a swimming pool. He began importing SEGA electronic games 13 years later, before founding Suny Electronics Ltd in 1991. In 1993, during a Tel Aviv Stock Exchange bubble, Suny raised NIS 20 million in an IPO. In 1998, Ben-Dov obtained the Israel franchise to import Samsung Electronics cellular telephones, and acquired control of the Achla web portal from Avi and Hagit Maor in September 1999. Acquisitions continued to grow the empire, and in January 2001 Ben-Dov acquired the Tapuz web portal for $450,000 through Achla. Yosi Ben-Dov ( he, יוסי בן-דב) is an Israeli educator, manager and university lecturer. Biography Ben-Dov was born in Haifa, Israel in 1950. He studied at The Hebrew Reali School from 1956 to 1968, and was active at the Israel Boy and Girl Scouts Federation (Tzofim) youth movement. He served the army at a "Nahal" unit, establishing kibbutz and Israeli settlement Mevo Hama at the southern part of the Golan Heights. Academic life Ben-Dov did his undergraduate studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Mathematics, Statistics and Economics. Shabtai Ben-Dov
Shabtai Ben-Dov ( he, שבתי בן דב‎; 31 May, 1924 – 29 December, 1978) was a member of Lehi and a philosopher. His work has been influential on several right-wing Israeli messianic groups. Personal life Ben-Dov was born in Vilnius, then part of Second Polish Republic in 1924 and moved to the British Mandate of Palestine in 1935. He joined the Irgun, which was fighting the British for control of the region. When Lehi split from Irgun, Ben-Dov joined the former to continue fighting the British, who he didn't think were doing enough to try and stop the Holocaust. He was caught, imprisoned, and eventually exiled to Africa by the British. He returned to Israel after the establishment of the State of Israel in 1948, and fought in the IDF's 89th battalion. After the Six-Day War in which Israel captured the Temple Mount, but allowed the Jerusalem Islamic Waqf to control it, Ben-Dov sued the government. Dov Ben-Dov (2 March 1927 – April 2020) was an Israeli sports shooter. He competed in the 300 m rifle, three positions event for Israel at the 1952 Summer Olympics. Biography Dov Ben-Dov was born in 1927 in the Bukharan neighborhood of Jerusalem to Zvi Ben-Dov (formerly Anshilovsky) and his wife, who were immigrants from Poland. He trained at the "Tir" shooting club, which operated on the beach Tel Aviv. Ben-Dov joined the Haganah before the establishment of the State of Israel and in 1948, after Israel declared its independence, he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) and participated in the first sniper course in the IDF, continuing his military service as a sniper instructor. Hanna Ben Dov (1919 in Jerusalem – 2008 in Paris) was an Israeli abstract painter. Life & Work Ben Dov's father, Ya'ackov Ben-Dov, was a famous Israeli photographer who founded the photography department in the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in 1910. Hannah herself attended Bezalel during the 1940s, and later continued to Camberwell College of Arts in London. After the completion of her formal education she moved to Paris, where she exhibited for the first time in 1948 and has been living and working there since, as a part of the local abstract artists school.
