Beme Inc. (), stylized as beme, was a multimedia company founded by Matt Hackett and Casey Neistat, a vlogger and short film maker on YouTube. Beme Inc. was the creator of the mobile app Beme. On November 28, 2016, CNN announced that it would acquire Beme. CNN intended to invest in the company and create a new brand focused on a young audience. The Beme app was officially shut down on January 31, 2017. Beme was merged into CNN Digital Studios on January 25, 2018. Beme continued to publish documentaries and news reports to itYouTube channel.Its last video was published on August 8, 2019. History In 2014, Beme Inc. was founded by Matt Hackett and Casey Neistat. Beme was removed from the iOS App Store and Google Play Store on January 31, 2017. Releases The first version of Beme was launched on July 17, 2015 for iOS. On May 2, 2016, an Android version was released. On March 25, 2016, version 0.9.0 was publicly released to the iOS App Store. The new version featured a new white and green UI as well as support for iPad and iPod touch that do not have a proximity sensor. Version 0.9.0 was the first major release featuring a brand new UI since the first public version. It also was the first version that allowed for a record time of up to 8 seconds and allowed you to stop any time while recording a beme and have it uploaded regardless of record time as long as it was between 2–8 seconds. Beme Seed was a New York based psychedelic noise rock band led by Kathleen Lynch, known for her collaboration with the Butthole Surfers. The band utilized guitar feedback and chanting to invoke a droning atmosphere in their music described as "panic inducing", and "supernatural".
