Sobieski Vodka
Sobieski is a Polish vodka brand. This company became a property of Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits in 1998. Sobieski is named after Jan III Sobieski, king of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth from 1674 to 1696. His nickname is the "Lion of Lechistan." Sobieski's basic vodka is a 100% pure rye vodka. It is distilled in Poland with rye (cultivar ''Dankowski'') and water only. Sobieski also produces four flavored vodkas made from fruit juice: Raspberry, Lemon, Orange, and Vanilla. Two vodka-based liqueurs are also produced by the label: Strawberry and Caramel. The Sobieski company was founded in 1846 by H.A. Winkelhausen in Koniaków, and produced over 60 types of alcohol. Krupnik (Polish, or Krupnikas ( Lithuanian) is a traditional sweet alcoholic drink similar to a liqueur, based on grain spirit (usually vodka) and honey, popular in Poland and Lithuania. In Poland it is grouped in the nalewka category of alcoholic beverages. Mass-produced versions of krupnik consist of 40–50% (80–100 proof) alcohol, but traditional versions will use 80–100% grain alcohol as the base. Honey, usually clover honey, is the main ingredient used to add sweetness, as well as up to 50 different herbs. There are many versions and some recipes have been passed down through generations; producers typically uses their own recipes. At times, spicy seasonings and herbs are added for flavour. The brand of the honey and the ratio of seasonings are key factors which determine the final taste of krupnik. La Maison Gautier, more commonly known as Cognac Gautier, is a French cognac distillery. It is part of the Marie Brizard Wine & Spirits group. Founded in 1755, it is one of the oldest French cognac manufacturers. The cellars of Maison Gautier were established in an old water mill in Aigre on the Osme river, in Charente, when the family obtained a royal warrant to produce cognac and a founding charter signed by King Louis XV. History The Gautier family gained fame in the 16th century when they made casks using wood from the Tronçais forest, famous for the quality of its oaks. In 1644, Charles Gautier married Jacquette Brochet, a winemaker's daughter. From 1700, their grandson, Louis Gautier, developed the trade in cognac. Marie Brizard et Roger International is a French alcoholic beverage company founded in 1755. It has been a subsidiary of Belvédère since 2006, and is based in Ivry-sur-Seine, France. The company sells liquors, pure cane syrups, recipes, and cocktails and mixes. The products are available in over 120 countries. The founder, Marie Brizard, was born in 1714 in Bordeaux one of 15 children of a barrel carpenter. In 1755, she took care of an ill West Indian sailor, and in return he gave her a recipe for aniseed liquor. That year, she and her nephew, Jean-Baptiste Roger, founded the company. The company began to grow, and was even presented to King Louis XV. In 1795, Jean-Baptiste Roger died. In 1801, Marie died. The company was passed to the widow of Roger, and the family kept ownership of the company for over ten generations until 1998. In 1954, it became a public limited company.
