Belvidere, North Carolina
Belvidere is an unincorporated community in Perquimans County, in the Albemarle Sound region of the northeastern part of the U.S. state of North Carolina. It is located north-west of the twin towns of Hertford and Winfall at the intersection of North Carolina Highway 37, and Perry's Bridge Road on the east side of the Perquimans River. Belvidere is part of the Elizabeth City, North Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area. Belvidere was originally built up chiefly by Quakers. The Belvidere, Belvidere Historic District, and Mitchell-Ward House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Winfall is a town in Perquimans County, North Carolina, United States. The population was 554 at the 2020 census. It is part of the Elizabeth City, North Carolina Micropolitan Statistical Area. History The Winfall Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003. Geography Winfall is located at (36.214551, -76.456758). Robert Weston Smith (January 21, 1938July 1, 1995), known as Wolfman Jack, was an American disc jockey active from 1960 till his death in 1995. Famous for his gravelly voice, he credited it for his success, saying, "It's kept meat and potatoes on the table for years for Wolfman and Wolfwoman. A couple of shots of whiskey helps it. I've got that nice raspy sound." Early life Smith was born in Brooklyn on January 21, 1938, the younger of two children of Anson Weston Smith, an Episcopal Sunday school teacher, writer, editor, and executive vice president of ''Financial World'', and his wife Rosamond Small. Perquimans River
The Perquimans River is a coastal waterway in Northeastern North Carolina in the United States. Located entirely within Perquimans County, the river drains directly to the Albemarle Sound between Durant's Neck on the north and Harvey Neck on the south. It is a tidal estuary to just north of the towns of Hertford and Winfall. Because of the extremely flat topography of the region, the Perquimans flows quite slowly and has cypress swamps on either bank for much of its upper length.
