Belmore Falls
The Belmore Falls is a Waterfall#Types, plunge waterfall with three drops on the Barrengarry Creek in the Southern Highlands (New South Wales), Southern Highlands and Illawarra regions of New South Wales, Australia. Location and features Located approximately south of the town of , the falls descend from the Illawarra escarpment at an elevation of Australian Height Datum, above sea level into the northern end of Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales, Kangaroo Valley within the Morton National Park. Descending over three drops, the waterfalls range in height between and are best viewed from the Hindmarsh Lookout, accessible via a short walk from a road heading south east from Burrawang, New South Wales, Burrawang. The falls were named after Somerset Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore the then-Governor of New South Wales. The Southern Highlands, also locally referred to as the Highlands, is a geographical region and district in New South Wales, Australia and is 110 km south-west of Sydney. The entire region is under the local government area of the Wingecarribee Shire. The region is also considered a wine region. Morton National Park
The Morton National Park is a national park located in the Southern Highlands, South Coast and Illawarra regions of New South Wales, Australia, situated approximately south southwest of Sydney. Burrawang, New South Wales
Burrawang ( ) is a village in the Southern Highlands of New South Wales, Australia in Wingecarribee Shire. It is situated high on a hill, 760m above sea level, midway between two reservoirs, the Wingecarribee and the Fitzroy. History At the time of white settlement in New South Wales, the Wadi Wadi tribe of Aborigines occupied the Burrawang (Yarrawa) area. The British naval surgeon Charles Throsby (1777–1828), became a settler in the colony in 1802 at the age of 31 and from 1804 served in the colonial medical establishment in the Newcastle area until 1809. Somerset Richard Lowry-Corry, 4th Earl Belmore, (9 April 1835 – 6 April 1913), styled as Viscount Corry from 1841 to 1845, was an Irish nobleman and Conservative politician who served as Governor of New South Wales from 1868 to 1872. Background and education Born at Bruton Street in London, he was the eldest son of Armar Lowry-Corry, 3rd Earl Belmore and his wife Emily Louise Shepherd, youngest daughter of William Shepherd. Belmore succeeded his father in the earldom on 24 December 1845, at the age of only 10. He was educated at Eton and at Trinity College, Cambridge, from where he graduated with a Master of Arts in 1856.
