Bellshill (ward)
Bellshill is one of the twenty-one wards used to elect members of the North Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it originally returned three councillors, covering part of Bellshill (including the Orbiston, Hattonrigg, Shirrell and West End neighbourhoods but not Milnwood, Thorndean, the town centre east of Hamilton Road / North Road, nor Mossend), with the northern boundary at the A8 and the western boundary at the A725 bypass; much of Strathclyde Country Park (nominally in Motherwell) was also assigned to this ward. A 2017 national review caused the territory to be altered, with a minor change within central Bellshill moving the eastern boundary to Motherwell Road, and a shift of the western boundary further towards Viewpark Viewpark is an area in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. Richard Lyle
Richard Macdonald Lyle (born 12 June 1950) is a retired Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He served as the Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Uddingston and Bellshill constituency from 2016 to 2021, having previously represented the Central Scotland region from 2011 to 2016. Before becoming an MSP, Lyle was a North Lanarkshire councillor for 30 years. Early life Lyle was born in Bothwellhaugh, Lanarkshire and educated at Lawmuir School and Bellshill Academy. He worked for the Royal Bank of Scotland before entering politics. Career Lyle joined the SNP in 1966 and served as a local councillor on Motherwell District Council and North Lanarkshire Council for 35 years, including the Bellshill ward from 2007 to 2011. Mossend And Holytown (ward)
Mossend and Holytown is one of the twenty-one wards used to elect members of the North Lanarkshire Council. Created in 2007, it elects three councillors. 2022 North Lanarkshire Council Election
Elections to North Lanarkshire Council took place on 5 May 2022 on the same day as the 31 other Scottish local government elections. The election used the 21 wards created following the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland's 5th Review, with 77 councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the STV electoral system. At the last election in 2017, the Scottish National Party (SNP) won the most seats, but Labour ran the council. Elections to North Lanarkshire Council were held on 4 May 2017, on the same day as the 31 other local authorities in Scotland. The election utilised twenty-one wards with 77 Councillors being elected. This represented an increase of 7 seats and 1 additional ward when compared to 2012. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the STV electoral system. The election saw the Scottish National Party overtake Labour as the largest party on the council. Despite the SNP winning the most seats and most votes, North Lanarkshire was run by a Labour administration supported by the Scottish Conservatives. Elections to North Lanarkshire Council were held on 3 May 2012 on the same day as the 31 other local authorities in Scotland. The election used the twenty wards created under the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, with 70 Councillors being elected. Each ward elected either 3 or 4 members, using the STV electoral system. The election saw Labour retain their traditional position as the largest party on the Council as they gained 1 seat from 2007 and retained their overall majority. The Scottish National Party also increased their representation and remained in second place on the authority with 3 net gains. Both the Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party and the Scottish Liberal Democrats were wiped out losing their single Council seats. 2007 North Lanarkshire Council Election
Elections to North Lanarkshire Council were held on 3 May 2007, the same day as the other Scottish local government elections and the Scottish Parliament general election. The election was the first one using 20 new wards created as a result of the Local Governance (Scotland) Act 2004, each ward will elect three or four councillors using the single transferable vote system a form of proportional representation. The new wards replace 70 single-member wards which used the plurality (first past the post) system of election. Labour managed to retain control of the council, something which the party failed to do in many other parts of Scotland. Overall they lost 14 seats, most of which went to the Scottish National Party, although the individual seats won by the Conservative Party and the Scottish Liberal Democrats were noteworthy in that these parties had never been represented on North Lanarkshire Council before.
