Bellerive Castle
Bellerive Castle (french: link=yes, Château de Bellerive) is a château in the municipality of Collonge-Bellerive of the Canton of Geneva in Switzerland. It is a Swiss heritage site of national significance. Bellerive Castle was constructed in 1666 for Charles-Emmanuel II. The construction was received with resentment by the locals and led to a war between the Republic of Geneva and the Duchy of Savoy. The château was formerly the home of Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan. On 31 August 2013, it was the setting for the wedding of Prince Rahim Aga Khan and Kendra Spears, who then became known as Princess Salwa Aga Khan. In 2022 it was reported that Dinara Kulibaeva has bought Bellerive Castle for an alleged price of 106 million Swiss francs. The Duchy of Savoy ( it, Ducato di Savoia; french: Duché de Savoie) was a country in Western Europe that existed from 1416. It was created when Sigismund, Holy Roman Emperor, raised the County of Savoy into a duchy for Amadeus VIII. The duchy was an Imperial fief, subject of the Holy Roman Empire, until 1792, with a vote in the Imperial Diet. From the 16th century, Savoy belonged to the Upper Rhenish Circle. Its territory included the current French departments of Savoy, Haute-Savoie and the Alpes-Maritimes, the current Italian region of Aosta Valley, a large part of Piedmont and the County of Geneva in Switzerland, which was then lost to the Old Swiss Confederacy. Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan
Prince Sadruddin Aga Khan ( ar, صدر الدين آغا خان, , 1933 – 2003) was a statesman and activist who served as United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees from 1966 to 1977, during which he reoriented the agency's focus beyond Europe and prepared it for an explosion of complex refugee issues. He was also a proponent of greater collaboration between non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and UN agencies. The Prince's interest in ecological issues led him to establish the ''Bellerive Foundation'' in the late 1970s, and he was a knowledgeable and respected collector of Islamic art. Charles Emmanuel II ( it, Carlo Emanuele II di Savoia); 20 June 1634 – 12 June 1675) was Duke of Savoy from 1638 to 1675 and under regency of his mother Christine of France until 1648.
