Belle Goshorn MacCorkle
Belle Goshorn MacCorkle (1841 – September 12, 1923) was the wife of former Governor of West Virginia William A. MacCorkle and served as that state's First Lady, 1893–1897. She was born in 1841, at Charleston, West Virginia. In 1884, she married William A. MacCorkle. The MacCorkles were the first to reside in the state supplied Governor's Mansion. Belle Fligelman Winestine (1891-1985) was an American writer and activist. She became involved in the women's suffrage movement while still a student at the University of Wisconsin. She then became a journalist before applying her skill as a writer to the Congressional campaign of Jeannette Rankin. Early life and education Belle Fligelman was born in 1891 to Herman and Minnie Fligelman in Helena, Montana. Her parents were Jewish immigrants from Romania. Fligelman had one older sister, Frieda. Frieda and Belle were raised by their father and stepmother, Getty Vogelman. Fligelman's mother died when Belle was only two weeks old. Her father became one of the wealthiest businessmen in Helena. Myra Maybelle Shirley Reed Starr (February 5, 1848 – February 3, 1889), better known as Belle Starr, was an American outlaw who gained national notoriety after her violent death. She associated with the James–Younger Gang and other outlaws. She was convicted of horse theft in 1883. She was fatally shot in 1889 in a case that is still officially unsolved. Ruth Isabelle Skinner (April 30, 1866 – April 9, 1928) was an American businesswoman and philanthropist. She was a daughter of silk manufacturer William Skinner (1824–1902) and his second wife, the former Sarah Elizabeth Allen (1834–1908). Belle Skinner was a humanitarian and music-lover whose life her brother William memorialized in the construction of the Skinner Hall of Music at Vassar College in 1932. She lived most of her life at the family home, Wistariahurst, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, now a historic site. Belle Hunt Shortridge (, Hunt; 1858 – November 24, 1893) was an American author of poetry, novels, short stories, and juvenile literature. She was the first person of European descent to be born in Wise County, Texas. She was a versatile and prolific writer, when the brief time allotted to her is considered. Belle Reynolds (née Arabella Macomber; October 20, 1840 – 1937) was an American Civil War nurse, physician, and woman's club leader. Reynolds joined her husband Lieutenant William S. Reynolds who was enlisted with the Seventeenth Illinois Volunteer Regiment and traveled with him to battle during the American Civil War. She became a heroine because of her involvement in the Battle of Shiloh, where Belle helped the wounded soldiers. Maribel Pérez (born 29 January 1976), best known by her stage name Belle Perez, is a Belgian-Spanish musician and songwriter. Born in Neerpelt to Spanish parents as María Isabelle Pérez Cerezo, the Flemish singer was discovered for her musical talents by Patrick Renier at a local talent show in 1997 at the age of 21. In 1999 she participated in the Belgian preselections of the Eurovision Song Contest and from then on Belle's career in music took off.
