Belgium Women's National Gymnastics Team
The Belgium women's national artistic gymnastics team represents Belgium in FIG international competitions. History Belgium has participated in the Olympic Games women's team competition thrice: in 1948, 2016, and 2020. At the 2020 Olympic Games Nina Derwael became Belgium's first Olympic medalist in women's artistic gymnastics, winning gold on the uneven bars. Yvonne Van Bets (born 14 December 1928) is a Belgian former gymnast who competed at the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, where she finished 11th and last with her team in the women's all around event. Born in Mechelen, she began training in gymnastics only two years prior to the Games and had to do so in secret while caring for her younger brothers and sisters. Jutta Verkest (born 11 October 2005) is a Belgian artistic gymnast. She represented Belgium at the 2020 Summer Olympics and was the youngest gymnast at the 2020 Olympic Games. Personal life Jutta Verkest was born on 11 October 2005, in Mechelen, and she began gymnastics in 2010. Her mother, Mireille, is from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Her idol is Gabby Douglas.
