Belgischer Rundfunk (BRF) (''Belgian Broadcasting'') is the public broadcasting, public-service broadcasting organisation serving the German-speaking Community of Belgium. Based in Eupen, with additional studio facilities in Sankt Vith and Brussels, BRF produces one television and three radio channels. History German-language broadcasts were first started in Brussels by the ''Nationaal Instituut voor Radio Omroep'' / ''Institut National de Radiodiffusion'' (NIR/INR) on 1 October 1945. In 1960, the NIR/INR became ''Belgische Radio en Televisie'' / ''Radio-Télévision Belge'' (BRT/RTB) and in 1961 RTB began a German-language radio channel, broadcasting from Liège. BRF1 is the first national radio station for the German community of Belgium, owned by Belgischer Rundfunk. Location BRF has three sites, its headquarters in the town of Eupen and studios in Brussels and Saint Vith. There are two types of radio network currently in use around the world: the one-to-many (simplex communication) broadcast network commonly used for public information and mass media, mass-media entertainment, and the two-way radio (Duplex (telecommunications), duplex communication) type used more commonly for public safety and public services such as police, fire, taxicabs, and delivery services.
