Belgian Railways Class 96
The class 96 (''MS96'' in Dutch, ''AM96'' in French) is an electric multiple unit constructed in 1996 for the National Railway Company of Belgium. They incorporate features from the DSB IC3 trainsets in order to enable passage from one set coach to another. When two or more units are coupled together in a single train, the entire front door folds away to give a wide passage, and the rubber diaphragms at the ends form a flush aerodynamic seal. Antwerpen-Berchem Railway Station
Antwerpen-Berchem is a railway station in the south of the city of Antwerp, Antwerp, Belgium. The station opened on 1 March 1865 and currently serves railway lines 25, 27, 27A and 59. History From opening until 1975, the station was simply known as ''Berchem'', later changing to ''Berchem (Antwerpen)'', at a time that international trains stopped here instead of Antwerpen Oost. In 1983, when Berchem and Antwerpen became one city, the station was renamed ''Antwerpen-Berchem''. International Thalys and Benelux services (from Amsterdam to Brussels and Paris) stopped calling at this station, following the opening of the North-South tunnel under Antwerpen-Centraal. Gare De Lille Flandres
Lille-Flandres station ( French: ''Gare de Lille-Flandres'', Dutch: ''Rijsel Vlaanderen'') is the main railway station of Lille, capital of French Flanders. It is a terminus for SNCF Intercity and regional trains. It opened in 1842 as the ''Gare de Lille'', but was renamed in 1993 when Lille Europe station opened. There is a 500m walking distance between the two stations, which are also adjacent stops on one of the lines of the Lille Metro. Construction The station was built by Léonce Reynaud and Sydney Dunnett for the CF du Nord. Construction began in 1869 and ended in 1892. The station front is the old front from Paris' Gare du Nord and was dismantled then reassembled in Lille at the end of the 19th century; an extra storey, as well as a large clock, were added to the original design. An EMU requires no separate locomotive, as electric traction motors are incorporated within one or a number of the carriages. The Scharfenberg coupler (german: Scharfenbergkupplung, abbreviated ''Schaku'') is a commonly used type of fully automatic railway coupling. Designed in 1903 by Karl Scharfenberg in Königsberg, Germany (today Kaliningrad, Russia), the coupler has gradually spread from transit trains to regular passenger service trains, although outside Europe its use is generally restricted to mass transit systems. Transmission balise-locomotive (Dutch: Transmissie Baken Locomotief) (TBL) (English: "Beacon-to-Locomotive Transmission") is a train protection system used in Belgium and (until 2021) on Hong Kong's East Rail line. Versions TBL1 The TBL system is designed to stop a train passing a red signal, with operating speeds of up to 160 km/h. In 2006 13% of the Belgium train network used the original TBL system, introduced in 1982. The system requires the train driver to manually acknowledge a warning when passing a double yellow signal (similar to the Memor/ Le Crocodile system), as well as stopping a train automatically if it passes a red signal.
