Belgian National Time Trial Championships
The Belgian National Time Trial Championships are held annually as part of the Belgian National Cycling Championships, deciding the national champion in this discipline for the year to come. The national time trial championship in Belgium is a relatively new competition, especially when compared to the Belgium National Road Race Championship, which was first held in 1894. The first winner of the men's elite time trial championships was Marc Streel in 1997. The race was not held the following year, and Marc Streel retained his title in 1999. In 2000 the Rik Verbrugghe was crowned champion, who holds the record for the fastest average speed in a time trial race in a Grand Tour, which he achieved by winning the 2001 Giro d'Italia prologue. Marc Wauters, Leif Hoste and Kristof Vandewalle hold the record for most wins in the championships, with three wins apiece. Johan Museeuw
Johan Museeuw (born 13 October 1965) is a retired Belgian professional road racing cyclist who was a professional from 1988 until 2004. Nicknamed ''The Lion of Flanders'', he was particularly successful in the cobbled classics of Flanders and Northern France and was considered one of the best classic races specialists of the 1990s. He won both the Tour of Flanders and Paris–Roubaix three times and was road world champion in 1996. Other notable career achievements include two individual stage wins in the Tour de France, two final classifications of the UCI Road World Cup, two national road race championships and several classic cycle races. Julien Vermote
Julien Vermote (born 26 July 1989) is a Belgian professional cyclist, who currently rides for UCI ProTeam . His brother is Alphonse Vermote, who rode for the squad. He was named in the start list for the 2015 Tour de France. Ben Hermans (born 8 June 1986) is a Belgian professional road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Hermans was born in Hasselt, Flanders, and he turned professional in 2009 with . Hermans left at the end of the 2013 season, and joined the for the 2014 season. In April 2015, he won the Belgian classic Brabantse Pijl with a late attack and resisted to the return of the peloton by a few seconds to cross the line solo. Maxime Monfort (born 14 January 1983) is a Belgian former professional road racing cyclist, who competed professionally between 2004 and 2019 for the , , , , and teams. Dominique Cornu
Dominique Cornu (born 10 October 1985) is a Belgian retired road and track cyclist from Flanders, who competed professionally between 2005 and 2015. He specialised in the time trial discipline. Career Cornu was born in Beveren. At the 2006 World Cycling Championship he was crowned Under-23 Time Trial World Champion. He had previously won the Junior Belgian Time Trial Championship in 2003 and 2004, and in 2005 he became the Belgian Under-23 time trial Champion. Cornu is also an accomplished track cyclist, winning the Individual Pursuit at the 2006 Belgian Track Cycling Championships. In addition to Cornu's time trialing skills he is also a promising cobblestone rider, having won the Under-23 edition of the prestigious Omloop "Het Volk" cycling classic in 2006. Stijn Devolder (born 29 August 1979) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer, who competed professionally for (2002–2003), (2004–2007), (2008–2010), (2011–2012), (2013–2016), (2017–2018) and (2019). Career Born in Kortrijk, West Flanders, Devolder won his first professional race at the 2004 Four Days of Dunkirk, winning stage 4. Philippe Gilbert (born 5 July 1982) is a Belgian former professional road bicycle racer, who is best known for winning the World Road Race Championships in 2012, and for being one of two riders, along with Davide Rebellin, to have won the three Ardennes classics – the Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne and Liège–Bastogne–Liège – in a single season, which he accomplished in 2011. Frank Vandenbroucke (cyclist)
Frank Vandenbroucke (6 November 1974 – 12 October 2009) was a Belgium, Belgian professional road racing cyclist. After showing promise in track and field in his adolescence, Vandenbroucke took to cycle racing in the late 1980s and developed into one of the great hopes for Belgian cycling in the 1990s, with a string of victories that included Liege-Baston-Liege, Grand Tour stages and Omloop Het Nieuwsblad, Omloop Het Volk. This early success dissipated however in a series of drug abuse, drug problems, rows with teams and suicide attempts. Despite repeated attempts to continue his career with a string of different teams from 2000 to 2008, Vandenbroucke's drug use and unpredictability eventually led to his estrangement from the cycling world.
