Belgian Hockey League
The Belgian Hockey League, also known as the Belgian Elite League, was the highest level of competition organized by the Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation. The league winner was crowned the Belgian Champion. The league had been in existence since 1912. The Brussels Royal IHSC were the most decorated team with 23 titles. In 2015, the league merged with the Dutch Eredivisie to form the BeNe League. History Early history The Belgian Hockey League played first in 1912. The play was interrupted several times in its history. The first game suspension happened 1914-1920 due to . The next break was from 1929-1934 due to the world economic crisis. The 3rd and last break was in the 1994/95 season, which was cancelled after the regular season due to issues over playoff participation. The Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation (RBIHF) is the Belgian ice hockey federation, known in Dutch as the ''Koninklijke Belgische IJshockey Federatie'' (KBIJF) and in French as the ''Fédération Royale Belge de Hockey sur Glace'' (FRBHG). It is responsible for administering ice hockey in Belgium, from the national team to the local leagues to youth development. History The Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation was formed in 1912 by Henry Van den Bulck. He became its first president remained in the position until 1920. Brussels Royal IHSC
Brussels Royal IHSC was an ice hockey team in Brussels, Belgium. The team played in the Belgian Hockey League. History The club was founded in 1909 as Brussels IHSC. They won the 1912 and 1913 Belgian championships. They became Entente Saint-Sauveur de Bruxelles in 1948, and won the league title in 1951, before being renamed Brussels IHSC (their old name) in 1954, and won the title with that name in 1962. The club was renamed Brussels IHSC Poseidon in 1966. In 1970, the team took on their final name, Brussels Royal IHSC, and won eight more league titles under this name. HYC Herentals is an ice hockey team in Herentals, Belgium. They play in the BeNe League and are known, for sponsorship reasons, as ERA Renomar HYC Herentals. History The club was founded in 1971. They won their first of nine Belgian Hockey League titles in 1981. In 1986, Herentals won the inaugural Belgian Cup. They have won the cup eight more times since. Wevelgem () is a municipality located in the Belgian province of West Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Gullegem, Moorsele and Wevelgem proper.
