Belarusian First League
The Belarusian First League is the second tier of professional football in Belarus. It was created in 1992, following the Belarusian independence. History and format The typical format of the league involves 16 clubs playing a double round-robin tournament over 30 matchdays (with the exception of shortened 1992 and 1995 seasons, which were a single round-robin tournaments). On several occasions the number of participating teams was smaller (15 or 14), due to last minute withdrawals and no teams available for replacement. In most of the seasons, two best teams are getting promoted to Belarusian Premier League, while two worst teams are relegated Belarusian Second League. FC Smolevichi
FC Smolevichi ( be, ФК Смалявічы, russian: ФК Смолевичи), is a Belarusian football club based in Smolevichi, Minsk Oblast. History The team was founded in 2009 as Vigvam Smolevichi. The same year, they debuted in the Minsk Oblast championship. In 2010, they joined the Belarusian Second League. They were renamed to Smolevichi in 2011 and to Smolevichi-STI in 2012. Smolevichi-STI won the 2012 Second League season, and have been playing in the First League since 2013. In January 2016, they reached the agreement with BATE Borisov to become Borisov's team farm club, although the partnership only lasted for one season. In 2017, Smolevichi-STI finished second in the First League and were promoted. Belarusian Premier League
The Belarusian Premier League or the Vyšejšaja Liha or the Vysheyshaya Liga ( be, Вышэйшая ліга, russian: Высшая лига, "Top League") is the top division of professional football in Belarus, and is organized by the Belarusian Football Federation. The number of teams in the competition has varied over the years from as high as 17 (1992–93 season) to as low as 11 (2012). As of 2016, the league included 16 teams. Each team plays every other team twice during the course of the season. At the end of the season, the two teams with the fewest points are automatically relegated to the Belarusian First League, while the third worst team plays a promotion-relegation playoff against the third best team from the second tier. The top two teams from the Belarusian First League automatically win promotion to the Premier League. Novopolotsk
Novopolotsk ( be, Наваполацк (Cyrillic), Navapołack ( Łacinka), translit=Navapolatsk, ; russian: Новополоцк, translit=Novopolotsk, ) is a city in Vitebsk Oblast, Belarus, with a population (2008 estimate) of 107,458. FC Volna Pinsk is a Belarusian football club based in Pinsk, Brest Oblast. The club plays in the Belarusian First League. History The club was established in 1987 as Kommunalnik Pinsk. Mikashevichi
Mikashevichy (, ; , ) is a city in the southwestern Belarusian Brest Region. It is located halfway between the cities of Brest and Gomel. Polish–Soviet War At the conclusion of World War I, Mikaszewicze held a special place in the political dialogue accompanying the Polish–Soviet War of liberation. The talks started in October 1919 at the small Mikaszewicze railway station and continued until December 1919. During the talks, Marshal Józef Piłsudski informed the Bolshevik delegation that Poland was not supporting the White movement of Anton Denikin in the Russian Civil War.
