Belarusian Canadians
Belarusian Canadians are Canadian citizens of Belarusian descent or Belarusian-born individuals who reside in Canada. According to the 2016 Census there were 20,710 Canadians who claimed Belarusian ancestry. Vincent Žuk-Hryškievič estimated the number of Belarusians in Canada in late 1959 at about 40 thousands, with a majority of Russian Empire era Belarusian immigrants being listed as Russians or Poles because Belarusians were not present as a separate category in Canadian documents. The oldest Belarusian diaspora organization in Canada, Belarusian Canadian Alliance, was established by Kastus Akula in 1948 in Toronto. According to the 2021 Canadian census, over 450 "ethnic or cultural origins" were self-reported by Canadians. The major panethnic origin groups in Canada are: European (), North American (), Asian (), North American Indigenous (), African (), Latin, Central and South American (), Caribbean (), Oceanian (), and Other (). Statistics Canada reports that 35.5% of the population reported multiple ethnic origins, thus the overall total is greater than 100%. Don Tapscott (born June 1, 1947) is a Canadian business executive, author, consultant and speaker, who specializes in business strategy, organizational transformation and the role of technology in business and society. He is the CEO of the Tapscott Group and the co-founder and Executive Chairman of the Blockchain Research Institute. Early life Ivonka Survilla was born in Stoŭbcy, then part of the Second Polish Republic (West Belarus), into the family of Uladzimier Šymaniec, an engineer, and Evelina Šymaniec née Paškievič. Barys Rahula
Barys Rahula ( be, Барыс Рагуля, Boris Ragula, 1 January 1920 – 22 April 2005) was a Belarusian political activist. He served as a military commander with the pro-German Belarusian Home Defence (BKA) during the Second World War. After the war he studied medicine in the West and became a doctor in Canada. Life Barys Rahula was born near Navahrudak and spent his early years in West Belarus, then part of the Second Polish Republic. David Lewis (Canadian Politician)
David Lewis (born David Losz; June 23 or October 1909 – May 23, 1981) was a Canadian labour lawyer and social democratic politician. He was national secretary of the Co-operative Commonwealth Federation (CCF) from 1936 to 1950 and one of the key architects of the New Democratic Party (NDP) in 1961. In 1962, he was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP), in the House of Commons of Canada, for the York South electoral district. While an MP, he was elected the NDP's national leader and served from 1971 until 1975. After his defeat in the 1974 federal election, he stepped down as leader and retired from politics. He spent his last years as a university professor at Carleton University, and as a travel correspondent for the ''Toronto Star''. Wayne Douglas Gretzky ( ; born January 26, 1961) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and former head coach. He played 20 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for four teams from 1979 to 1999. Walter Gretzky
Walter Gretzky, (October 8, 1938 – March 4, 2021) was a Canadian philanthropist who was best known as the father of Canadian ice hockey icon Wayne Gretzky. An avid hockey player as a youth, and a keen analyst of the game, he built a backyard rink for his children, and coached Wayne continually from the age of three, devising creative exercises and drills, and teaching him profound insights into how to play successfully. Wayne credited his father as playing a key role in his success, citing advice such as "skate to where the puck is going, not where it has been".
