Beitar Avraham Be'er Sheva ( he, בית"ר אברהם באר שבע) was an Israeli football club based in Beersheba. History The club was founded in 1956 and started in Liga Gimel. After three seasons at the bottom tier, the club won their regional division and were promoted to Liga Bet. Sneh returned and the Negev city Beitars succeeded making the big jump (Page 5)Hadshot HaSport, 24 June 1966, archive.football.co.il In the 1965–66 season, they won Liga Bet South B division and were promoted to Liga Alef, then the second tier of Israeli football. The club were relegated back to Liga Bet in 1969–70 after finishing second from bottom of the South Division. Beitar were promoted back to Liga Alef, now the third tier, at the end of the 1978–79 season, remaining in Liga Alef until the 1986–87 season, when they were relegated back to Liga Bet. The Betar Movement ( he, תנועת בית"ר), also spelled Beitar (), is a Revisionist Zionist youth movement founded in 1923 in Riga, Latvia, by Vladimir (Ze'ev) Jabotinsky. Chapters sprang up across Europe, even during World War II. After the war and during the settlement of what became Israel, Betar was traditionally linked to the original Herut and then Likud political parties of Jewish pioneers. It was closely affiliated with the pre-Israel Revisionist Zionist paramilitary group Irgun Zevai Leumi. It was one of many right-wing movements and youth groups arising at that time that adopted special salutes and uniforms. Hapoel ( he, הפועל, lit. ''the worker'') is an Israeli Jewish sports association established in 1926 by the Histadrut Labor Federation. The Israeli football league system is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in Israel. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, and allows even the smallest club to dream of rising to the very top of the system.
