Beit Berl Academic College
Beit Berl College is a multi-disciplinary academic college for higher education located in Beit Berl in the Sharon region of Israel. It is one of the oldest colleges in Israel. The college grants undergraduate degrees (B.Ed and B.Ed.F.A.) and graduate degrees (M.Ed and M.Teach) in a variety of disciplines in teaching and education (formal and informal), in the Arts (Fine Arts, Film, Art Education, Art Therapy), Humanities, and Social Sciences. The college also issues teaching certificates for academics and various types of diplomas. History Beit Berl was established in 1949 on the grounds of Kalmania farm as an educational institution of Mapai. It was designed to realize and perpetuate the ideological legacy of Berl Katznelson; after immigrating to Mandatory Palestine, Katznelson worked on the educational issues of the Yishuv as a whole and of the Zionist Labor Movement in particular. Yuli Tamir
Yael "Yuli" Tamir ( he, יולי תמיר; born 26 February 1954) is an Israeli academic and former politician who served as a member of the Knesset for the Labor Party between 2003 and 2010, and as Minister of Immigrant Absorption and Education, as well as the deputy speaker of the Knesset and a member of the Finance committee, the Education committee and the Security and Foreign Affairs committee. From 2010 to 2020, Tamir was President of Shenkar College of Engineering and Design. Since 2015 she is an adjunct professor at the Blavatnik School of Government, Oxford. Yair Garbuz
Yair Garbuz ( he, יאיר גרבוז, born 29 September 1945) is an Israeli artist. He was director of the HaMidrasha Art School at Beit Berl College for 12 years. He is also known in Israel as an author and as a humorist. Biography Yair Garbuz was born in Givatayim, Mandatory Palestine. In 1962-1967, while a member of Kibbutz Kfar HaHoresh, he studied painting under Raffi Lavie. He also attended the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv. Since his debut in 1967, Garbuz's work has been exhibited in dozens of one-man shows and group exhibitions in Israel and abroad. In 1973-2009, Garbuz taught at "HaMidrasha" art faculty, Beit Berl College, which he directed from 1997. He has also taught at the Avni Institute, Tel-Hai Academic College, and the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design in Jerusalem. Education In Israel
The education system in Israel consists of three tiers: primary education (grades 1–6, approximately ages 6–12), middle school (grades 7–9, approximately ages 12–15) and high school (grades 10–12, approximately ages 15–19). Compulsory education takes place from kindergarten through 10th grade. The school year begins on September 1 (September 2 if September 1 is on Saturday), ending for elementary school pupils on June 30 (June 29 if June 30 is on Saturday), and for middle school and high school pupils on June 20 (June 19 if June 20 is on Saturday). Nurit Buchweitz
Nurit Buchweitz is the Dean of the Faculty of Society and Culture at Beit Berl College in Israel, where she has lectured since 1994 in the Department of Hebrew and Comparative Literature, and the English department. Education Buchweitz earned her BA and MA from Tel Aviv University in Poetics and General Literature. Hillel Roman (הלל רומן) is a visual artist living and working in Tel Aviv, Israel. Biography Roman was born on April 16, 1975 in Los Angeles, California. At age 24 he joined Hamidrasha Art School, Beit Berl College, Israel. Michal Heiman
Michal Heiman ( Hebrew: מיכל היימן, born in Tel Aviv) is a Tel Aviv-Yafo based artist, curator, theoretician and activist. She is the founder of the ''Photographer Unknown Archive'' (1984) and creator of the Michal Heiman Tests No. 1-4 (M.H.T). Simcha Shirman
Simcha Shirman (Born 1947) is a German-born Israeli photographer and educator. Biography Early life Simcha Shearman was born in 1947 to Batya and David, both Holocoust survivors. He was born in Saint Ottilien Convent, which was converted by USA occupation authorities to a soldier and refugee hospital after WWII. His birth certificate states that he is a displaced person. Boaz Arad
Boaz Arad (16 March 1956 – 2 February 2018) was an Israeli visual artist. He worked in a variety of media including painting, sculpture, photography, and video. Biography Arad was born in Tel Aviv in 1956. Arad studied art at the Avni Institute of Art and Design in Tel Aviv in 1978–1982. His work is in collections of a number of museums, including the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. Gideon Gechtman
Gideon Gechtman (1942 – November 27, 2008) was an Israeli artist and sculptor. His art is most noted for holding a dialogue with death, often in relation with his own biography. Biography Gideon Gechtman was born in Alexandria, Egypt. He moved to the Mandatory Palestine, British mandate of Palestine with his family in 1945. Guy Ben-Ner ( he, גיא בן נר; born 1969) is an Israeli video artist. He lives and works in Tel Aviv, Berlin and New York City. Avi Lubin ( he, אבי לובין); born 1977, is an Israeli curator of contemporary art. As of 2018, he is the curator of Hamidrasha Gallery.
