Behind Enemy Lines (1986 Film)
''Behind Enemy Lines'' is a 1986 American action film directed by Gideon Amir and starring David Carradine. It is set in the context of the Vietnam War POW/MIA issue where Colonel Cooper, an Airborne commando, is sent to Vietnam to free American soldiers caught in a Vietnamese prisoner of war camp. The film is also known as ''Attack Force 'Nam'' (American DVD title), ''P.O.W. the Escape'' (American reissue title). Plot Colonel Cooper (David Carradine) is a U.S. Airborne commando who comes to Vietnam with a special mission to liberate imprisoned American soldiers. He gets caught in a North Vietnamese POW camp where there are other Paratroopers and Soldiers. Action is set at the end of the war and he, as the highest-ranking officer in the POW camp, is to be sent to Hanoi and prosecuted by the North Vietnamese. ''Behind Enemy Lines'' is an American 1997 action film starring Thomas Ian Griffith, Chris Mulkey, Mark Carlton, and Spanky Manikan. Plot A Vietnamese military officer, General Nguy is purchasing nuclear triggers from the Chinese triads at the border. A two-man special operations US Marine Team thwarts the transaction and obtains the triggers. However, one of the Marines, Jones, is unavoidably left behind. Mike Weston thinks Jones is dead, but when he learns otherwise from Colonel Wolfe, he goes back for him. Once in Vietnam, he is picked up and General Nguy tries to get his nuclear triggers back. The phrase "axis of evil" was first used by U.S. President George W. Bush and originally referred to Iran, Iraq, and North Korea. It was used in Bush's State of the Union address on January 29, 2002, less than five months after the 9/11 attacks, and often repeated throughout his presidency. He used it to describe foreign governments that, during his administration, allegedly sponsored terrorism and sought weapons of mass destruction. The notion of such an axis was used to pinpoint these common enemies of the United States and to rally the American populace in support of the War on Terror. The countries originally covered by the term were Iran, Ba'athist Iraq, and North Korea. In response, Iran formed a political alliance that it called the "Axis of Resistance" comprising Iran, Syria and Hezbollah.
