''Beg, Borrow or Steal'' is a 1937 American comedy film directed by Wilhelm Thiele and written by Leonard Lee, Harry Ruskin and Marion Parsonnet. The film stars Frank Morgan, Florence Rice, John Beal, Janet Beecher, Herman Bing and Erik Rhodes. The film was released on December 3, 1937, by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Plot Con-man Ingraham Steward promises his daughter a luxurious wedding at his château in the French Riviera, although he doesn't really own the château. He induces the caretaker, Bill Cherau, to go along with his facade. On the day of the wedding, Bill falls in love with Ingraham's daughter and she feels the same, but still plans to have her intended wedding. Later, Ingraham has a change of heart and confesses that the château is not his. His daughter forgives him and goes to her true love Bill, whom is not actually a caretaker. Wilhelm Thiele
Wilhelm Thiele (1890–1975) was an Austrian screenwriter and film director. He directed over 40 films between 1921 and 1960. Life and career Thiele started his show career as a stage actor. He got his start in Austrian and German film during the 1920s, most often as a director of film comedies. His biggest success was the highly influential musical film '' The Three from the Filling Station'' (1930), the highest-grossing film in Germany that year. Thiele, who was of Jewish descent,Siegbert Salomon Prawer, ''Between Two Worlds: The Jewish Presence in German and Austrian Film, 1910-1933'', Berghahn Books (2007), p. 211 left Germany during the Nazi Era. George Givot
George David Givot (February 18, 1903 – June 7, 1984) was a Russian Empire-born American comedian and actor on Broadway and in vaudeville, movies, television and radio. He was known for speaking in a comedic fake Greek dialect and was styled the "Greek Ambassador of Good Will". Harlan Briggs (August 17, 1879 – January 26, 1952) was an American actor and Vaudeville performer who was active from the 1930s until his death in 1952. During the course of his career he appeared on Broadway, in over 100 films, as well as appearing on television once towards the end of his career.
