	Bedia Akartürk Bedia Akartürk (born 4 February 1941) is a Turkish folk music singer. Biography Bedia Akartürk was born 4 February 1941 in Ödemiş, İzmir Province. She is the only child of her family. Since she was the only child of the family, she continued her father's surname as Akartürk and never changed her name. Bedia Akartürk started her art life in Ödemiş, where she was raised, and then she started to work at İzmir Radio when she was older, and after 9 years of experience at İzmir Radio, she moved to Ankara Radio. She continued her music career Ankara Radio and retired from Ankara Radio, and gave a magnificent concert in Paris Olympia, which was not everyone's fortune at that time, and she represented Turkey in the best way. 	Turkish Folk Music Turkish folk music (''Türk Halk Müziği'') is the traditional music of Turkish people living in Turkey influenced by the cultures of Anatolia and former territories in Europe and Asia. Its unique structure includes regional differences under one umbrella. It includes popular music from the Ottoman Empire era. After the foundation of the Turkish Republic in 1923, Turkish President Mustafa Kemal Atatürk ordered a wide-scale classification and archiving of samples of Turkish folk music from around the country, which, from 1924 to 1953 collected around 10,000 folk songs. 	Ödemiş Ödemiş is a district of İzmir Province of Turkey, as well as the name of its central town (urban population 75,577 as of 2012), located 113 km southeast of the city of İzmir. About 4 km north of Ödemiş town are the ruins of Hypaepa. The historical importance of the region is also reflected by the small town of Birgi, east of Ödemiş, which was the capital of the Aydınids, which has examples of Seljuq and Ottoman architecture. Birgi has been on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list since 1994, and points of interest here include Çakırağa Mansion, İmam-i Birgivi Medrese and Sultanşah Mausoleum. Ödemiş is famous for its potatoes, which has the best quality in Turkey, as well as its "Ödemiş Kebab".
