Bedford High School is a rural public high school located in Bedford, Iowa, United States. It is one of two high schools in Taylor County. A majority of the student population comes from the towns of Bedford, Blockton, Gravity, Conway, and New Market while some students open enroll from neighboring districts in the area. The school's enrollment is approximately 135 students (9–12) and is administered by the Bedford Community School District. Its official mascot is the Bulldog, and its official colors are Navy and White. Academics Bedford offers a wide variety of courses for students to choose from. They also allow students to take college courses through Iowa Western Community College in Clarinda, Iowa. Many students choose to further their educations at various colleges in the United States, while some students choose to enter military service, or the workforce following graduation. Bedford, Iowa
Bedford is a city in Taylor County, Iowa, United States. The population was 1,508 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Taylor County. Lake of Three Fires State Park is located a few miles northeast of Bedford. History The community is believed to have gotten its name from Thomas J. Bedford, who was the first west bound Pony Express rider to deliver the mail on its final leg from Benicia, California to Oakland, California on April 23, 1861. Bedford is believed to have operated Bedfords Store and Trading Post in 1848 within the city limits. He moved to California later that year, in the California Gold Rush. The community was called "Grove" when a post office was established on June 30, 1855. On June 24, 1856 it was changed to Bedford. The Pride of Iowa Conference (POI ) is a high school athletic conference made up of 10 small schools in southern Iowa, United States. Current members Mount Ayr shares a football team with Diagonal. Nodaway Valley shares a football team with Orient-Macksburg. History The conference was founded in 1987 with six schools: I-35, Wayne, Central Decatur, Mt. Ayr, Southeast Warren, and East Union. The Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) is the regulating body for male Iowa high school interscholastic athletics and is a full member of the National Federation of State High School Associations.
