''Bedevil'', stylised as ''beDevil'', is a 1993 Australian horror film directed by Tracey Moffatt, the first feature directed by an Australian Aboriginal woman. Plot The film is a trilogy of surreal ghost stories. Inspired by ghost stories she heard as a child from both her extended Aboriginal and Irish Australian families, Moffatt created a trilogy in which characters are haunted by the past. All three stories are set in Moffatt's highly stylised, hyper-real, hyper-imaginary Australian landscape. ''Mr. Chuck'' ''Mr. Chuck'' is the first of the three-part series featured in ''BeDevil''. Tracey Moffatt
Tracey Moffatt (born 12 November 1960) is an Indigenous Australian artist who primarily uses photography and video. In 2017 she represented Australia at the 57th Venice Biennale with her solo exhibition, "My Horizon". Her works are held in the collections of the Tate, Museum of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles, National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of South Australia and Art Gallery of New South Wales. She currently lives in Sydney and New York City. Though she is best known for her photographic works, Moffatt has created numerous films, documentaries and videos. Her work often focuses on Australian Aboriginal people and the way they are understood in cultural and social terms. Carl Vine
Carl Edward Vine, (born 8 October 1954) is an Australian composer of contemporary classical music. From 1975 he has worked as a freelance pianist and composer with a variety of theatre and dance companies, and ensembles. Vine's catalogue includes eight symphonies, twelve concertos, music for film, television and theatre, electronic music and numerous chamber works. From 2000 until 2019 Carl was the Artistic Director of Musica Viva Australia. Banula Marika
Banula (David) Marika is an Aboriginal Australian dancer, actor, singer and performer from Yirrkala in North East Arnhem Land, in the Northern Territory of Australia. The son of Roy Marika, he is a member of the Rirratjingu clan of the Yolngu people, and is known for his performances with the Bangarra Dance Theatre since the 1990s. He is credited as David Manula Barika for his role as didgeridu player in ''Jindalee Lady'' (1992), and as Banula (David) Marika for his first role as an actor in the film ''Bedevil'' (1993), His stage performances with Bangarra include ''Up Until Now'' (1991), ''Praying Mantis Dreaming'' (1992-3) and ''Bloodland'' (2011-2). Jack Charles (actor)
Jack Charles (5 September 1943 – 13 September 2022), also known as Uncle Jack Charles, was an Australian stage and screen actor and activist, known for his advocacy for Aboriginal people. He was involved in establishing the first Indigenous theatre in Australia, co-founding Nindethana Theatre with Bob Maza in Melbourne in 1971. His film credits include the Australian film ''The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith'' (1978), among others, and more recently appeared in TV series ''Cleverman'' (2016) and ''Preppers'' (2021). He spent many decades in and out of prison and as a heroin addict, which he ascribed largely to trauma that he experienced as a child, as one of the Stolen Generations.
