Elsie Jane Wilson
Elsie Jane Wilson (7 November 1885 – 16 January 1965) was a cinema actress, director, and writer during the early film era. She took part in the productions of the silent film era and starred in over thirty films. Between the years of 1916 and 1919, Wilson was credited for producing, writing two films, and directing eleven films. She was best known in the genres of dramas and comedy dramas. Biography Elsie Jane Wilson was born in Sydney, Australia. She began her career as a professional actress at the age of two. She credited her success to participating in the ''English Christmas Pantomime'' every year, allowing her to gain training and experience for the pictures. Wlison acted in London, South Africa, and New York City. She toured Australia and New Zealand with a number of J. C. Williamson companies, where she met and married Rupert Julian in 1906. A silent film is a film with no synchronized recorded sound (or more generally, no audible dialogue). Though silent films convey narrative and emotion visually, various plot elements (such as a setting or era) or key lines of dialogue may, when necessary, be conveyed by the use of title cards. The term "silent film" is something of a misnomer, as these films were almost always accompanied by live sounds. During the silent era that existed from the mid-1890s to the late 1920s, a pianist, theater organist—or even, in large cities, a small orchestra—would often play music to accompany the films. A lost film is a feature or short film that no longer exists in any studio archive, private collection, public archive or the U.S. Library of Congress. Gretchen Lederer (née. Schwallenback, 23 May 1891 – 20 December 1955) was a German actress of the silent era. She appeared in more than 80 films between 1912 and 1918. Personal life Gretchen Lederer was born in Cologne, Germany. She was married twice. Her first husband was the Austrian-American actor Otto Lederer. The couple had one son, Leroy Lederer Shepek (1908-1940). Her second husband was the conservative American economist Lewis Henry Haney. Gretchen Lederer was still with him in 1955, when she died in Anaheim, California at age 64. Winter Hall (21 June 1872 – 10 February 1947) was a New Zealand actor of the silent era who later appeared in sound films. He performed in more than 120 films between 1916 and 1938. Prior to that, he had a career as a stage actor in Australia and the United States. In sound films, he was frequently typecast as a clergyman.
