Beauty And The Rogue
''Beauty and the Rogue'' is a 1918 American silent film, silent Comedy film, comedy crime drama film directed by Henry King (director), Henry King and starring Mary Miles Minter. It was filmed under the working title of "Mademoiselle Tiptoe," based on a story by Arthur Berthelet and adapted for the screen by Elizabeth Mahoney, who was the screenwriter for many of Minter's Mutual Film features. As with many of Minter's features, it is thought to be a lost film. Plot As described in various film magazine reviews, Roberta "Bobby" Lee (Minter) is a wealthy and optimistic girl who believes in prison uplift work. She persuades her father Thomas (Periolat) to take ex-convict "Slippery" Bill Dorgan (Humphrey) into his employ as a gardener. The same night that Roberta leaves for a vacation on a country ranch, Dorgan steals her jewellery and runs away. Henry King (director)
Henry King (January 24, 1886June 29, 1982) was an American actor and film director. Widely considered one of the finest and most successful filmmakers of his era, King was nominated for two Academy Awards for Best Director, and directed seven films nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. Biography Before coming to film, King worked as an actor in various repertoire theatres and first started to take small film roles in 1912. Between 1913 and 1925, he appeared as an actor in approximately sixty films. He directed for the first time in 1915 and grew to become one of the most commercially successful Hollywood directors of the 1920s and '30s. He was twice nominated for the Best Director Oscar. In 1944, he was awarded the first Golden Globe Award for Best Director for his film '' The Song of Bernadette''. He worked most often with Tyrone Power and Gregory Peck and for 20th Century Fox. Orral Humphrey
Thomas Orral Humphrey (April 3, 1880 - August 12, 1929) was an American silent film actor and director. Humphrey was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He starred in 46 films between 1914 and 1929 and is credited for directing four films. His younger sister Ola Humphrey was an actress. Humphrey's first film was one of the most popular of 1915, ''The Diamond from the Sky'' in which he starred alongside Lottie Pickford, Charlotte Burton, Jack Hoxie, and other popular actors. Clarence Burton
Clarence Forrest Burton (May 10, 1882 – December 2, 1933) was an American silent film actor. Biography Burton was born in Fort Lyon, in Benton County, Missouri and started in show business at the age of 5, playing stock and musical comedy in road productions. He was signed into films in late 1912 and starred in 132 films between 1913 and 1932. By late 1920, Burton had become heavy enough to be considered unsuited for his typical villainous roles in films. A trainer supervised a program of exercise and diet until Burton had lost enough weight to be cast in the Paramount film ''The Jacklins''. He died of a heart attack in 1933 at the age of 51 in Hollywood, California. His interment was located at Hollywood Forever Cemetery, but was removed on September 6, 1950.
