Background The song was written by Chris Carrabba of the rock band Dashboard Confessional together with his friends Rykeyz and Ayanna Elese. According to Carrabba, the song was written in "a little bit of a vacuum," and how it came to be submitted to ''Idol'' was "still a blur" to him. It was given to Fradiani as his coronation song. Fradiani first heard the song the day after making Idol's top three and recognized Chris Carrabba's voice who he said he was a fan of since high school. Nicholas James Fradiani IV (born November 15, 1985) is an American singer from Guilford, Connecticut. He rose to regional attention as the lead singer of pop/rock band Beach Avenue when they won the Battle of the Bands at Mohegan Sun in 2011. He gained national recognition in 2014 when he competed on the ninth season of the reality talent show ''America's Got Talent'', although he only made it to "Judgment Week". In 2015, Fradiani entered as a solo singer on the fourteenth season of ''American Idol''. Fradiani won the show in May 2015, becoming the first winner from the Northeast region. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Chart rankings are based on sales (physical and digital), radio play, and online streaming in the United States. The 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup was the seventh FIFA Women's World Cup, the quadrennial international soccer championship contested by the women's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. Scott Borchetta (born July 3, 1962) is an American record executive and founder of the Big Machine Label Group. He started the label in 2005 with 13 employees, as its president/CEO and encompasses four imprints: Big Machine Records, BMLG Records, The Valory Music Co. and Nash Icon Records. In 2015, he became an in-house mentor on ''American Idol'' in the program's 14th and 15th seasons.
