"Beautiful Girl" is a song with music by Nacio Herb Brown and lyrics by Arthur Freed, first published in 1933. It was originally written for the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film '' Stage Mother'' (1933) and appeared the same year in another MGM production – ''Going Hollywood'' (1933), where it was sung by Bing Crosby, whose rendition charted in the US at number 11 for 3 weeks. Background "Beautiful Girl" was introduced by a vaudeville singer and actor Sam Ash in a pre-Code Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture '' Stage Mother'' (1933). It appeared in a show sequence, where it was danced to by Maureen O'Sullivan. The original arrangement and orchestration of the song was made by Jack Virgil and was conducted by Lou Silvers. The master recording of Ash's version was on August 7, 1933. The first commercial recording of "Beautiful Girl" however, was made by Freddy Martin and his Orchestra on September 20, 1933. The ''Billboard'' Hot 100 is the music industry standard record chart in the United States for songs, published weekly by '' Billboard'' magazine. Paul Samuel Whiteman (March 28, 1890 – December 29, 1967) was an American bandleader, composer, orchestral director, and violinist. As the leader of one of the most popular dance bands in the United States during the 1920s and early 1930s, Whiteman produced recordings that were immensely successful, and press notices often referred to him as the "King of Jazz". Bernard Joseph Cummins (March 14, 1900 – September 22, 1986) was an American jazz drummer and bandleader. Early years Cummins was born in Akron, Ohio. In his youth, Cummins was a boxer, besides playing drums in local bands in Ohio. Orchestras In 1919 he created a small ensemble of his own, which debuted in Indiana and which grew gradually into a larger dance band after he moved to Cincinnati in 1923. Singers in the band included Dorothy Crane, Jerry Lang, Betty Griffin, Bernie's brother Walter Cummins and Scottee Marsh, who sang later with Tommy Dorsey. A female singing trio known as the Sophisticates was hired by Bernie in the mid-1930s out of Minneapolis Marshall High School about the time the Andrews Sisters from Minneapolis North High School became popular. Harrison Franklin Reser (January 17, 1896 – September 27, 1965) was an American banjo player and bandleader. Born in Piqua, Ohio, Reser was best known as the leader of The Clicquot Club Eskimos. He was regarded by some as the best banjoist of the 1920s. Early life Reser was born in Piqua, Ohio, to William Scott Reser and Alberta Wright. The couple had another child, Ruth.
