''Beastie Boys Video Anthology'' is a 2000 DVD compilation of video clips by the Beastie Boys. The compilation was issued by The Criterion Collection as their 100th DVD title. This compilation is Criterion's first, and currently only, music video compilation. Each music video featured on this set contains numerous video angles and audio mixes which the viewer can mix-and-match with the DVD remote. Beastie Boys
Beastie Boys were an American rap rock group from New York City, formed in 1978. The group was composed of Mike D, Michael "Mike D" Diamond (vocals, drums), Adam Yauch, Adam "MCA" Yauch (vocals, bass), and Ad-Rock, Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz (vocals, guitar, Programming (music), programming). Beastie Boys were formed out of members of experimental hardcore punk band the Young Aborigines in 1978, with Diamond as vocalist, Jeremy Shatan on bass guitar, John Berry (Beastie Boys), John Berry on guitar, and Kate Schellenbach on drums. When Shatan left in 1981, Yauch replaced him on bass and the band changed their name to Beastie Boys. Berry left shortly thereafter and was replaced by Horovitz. After achieving local success with the 1983 comedy hip hop single "Cooky Puss", Beastie Boys made a full transition to hip hop, and Schellenbach left. Sabotage (Beastie Boys Song)
"Sabotage" is a 1994 song by American rap rock group Beastie Boys, released as the first single from their fourth studio album ''Ill Communication''. The song features traditional rock instrumentation (Ad-Rock on guitar, MCA on bass, and Mike D on drums), turntable scratches, heavily distorted bass guitar riffs and lead vocals by Ad-Rock. A moderate commercial success, the song was notable as well for its video, directed by Spike Jonze and nominated in five categories at the 1994 MTV Music Video Awards. "Pass the Mic" is the first single from the third studio album ''Check Your Head'' by American rap group the Beastie Boys, released on April 7, 1992. Sampling lawsuit In 2003, Beastie Boys were involved in the landmark sampling decision, ''Newton v. Diamond''. In that case, a federal judge ruled that the band was not liable for sampling James Newton's "Choir" in their track, "Pass the Mic". The sample used is the six-second flute stab. ''Root Down'' is an EP by American hip hop group Beastie Boys, released in 1995. The first three tracks are variations of the track "Root Down", from the Beastie Boys' 1994 album ''Ill Communication''. The remaining seven tracks were recorded "live in Europe, winter 1995". The hidden track heard in the end is a radio jingle in Hebrew made in Israel's military radio station Galey Tzahal. It promoted a Beastie Boys special aired prior to their only two concerts in the country, in March 1995. When Mike D and Ad-Rock were interviewed at the station they heard the recording and asked for it. ''Polly Wog Stew'' is the first recorded release by Beastie Boys, released as an EP in 1982 on the independent record label Rat Cage. Now out of print in its original form, all eight songs saw reissue on the 1989 punk rock compilation '' Killed by Death #1'' but were removed from the record's subsequent releases when the band repackaged the entire EP, along with the ''Cooky Puss'' 12", as the compilation album ''Some Old Bullshit''.
