Beast Of The East (wrestling)
The Beast of the East is an American high school folkstyle wrestling tournament which has taken place since 1993. Since 1997, the tournament has been held at the University of Delaware's Bob Carpenter Center. It is widely considered one of the top three in-season high school wrestling tournaments in the United States, along with the Walsh Jesuit Ironman and the Powerade Wrestling Tournament. Beast of the East champions have gone on to win collegiate and Olympic championships. Scholastic wrestling, also known in the United States as folkstyle wrestling, is a style of amateur wrestling practiced at the high school and middle school levels in the United States. This wrestling style is essentially collegiate wrestling with some slight rule modifications. According to an athletics participation survey taken by the National Federation of State High School Associations, boys' wrestling ranked eighth in terms of the number of schools sponsoring teams, with 9,445 schools participating in the 2006–07 school year. Also, 257,246 boys participated in the sport during that school year, making scholastic wrestling the sixth most popular sport among high school boys. Bob Carpenter Center
Bob Carpenter Center is a 5,100-seat multi-purpose arena, in Newark, Delaware, named in honor of benefactor and trustee, R. R. M. Carpenter Jr. (1915–1990). Students at the University of Delaware have nicknamed it "The Bob." The arena opened in 1992 and was designed by HOK Sport (now known as Populous (company), Populous), who have been involved in more than 150 sports and recreation projects. The construction of the building cost $20.5 million. The Ironman Wrestling Tournament is an American high school folkstyle wrestling invitational tournament. The IRONMAN Wrestling Tournament is one of the most prestigious and competitive high school wrestling tournaments in the country. Held every December at Walsh Jesuit High School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, the IRONMAN attracts the best wrestlers from all over the country, as well as some of the top college coaches.The tournament is divided into two divisions: the division for boys and the girls division. NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships
The NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships have been held annually since 1928, except for a hiatus in 1943–45 during World War II and in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic. In 1928 and from 1931–1933, there was only an unofficial team title. Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) won the 1928 and 1931 unofficial titles. Wrestling At The Summer Olympics
Since the Olympic Games began in Athens in 1896, wrestling (in the form of Greco-Roman wrestling) became a focus of the Games, with the exception of the 1900 Summer Olympics when wrestling did not appear on the program. David Morris Taylor III (born December 5, 1990) is an American freestyle and graduated folkstyle wrestler who currently competes at 86 kilograms. In 2021, Taylor became the 2020 Olympic gold medalist after defeating reigning Olympic and World Champion Hassan Yazdani, a feat he repeated from the 2018 World Championship where he stormed his way to the title. Jordan Michael Oliver (born May 8, 1990) is an American freestyle, graduated folkstyle wrestler who competes at 65 kilograms and professional mixed martial artist who competes in the featherweight division of Bellator MMA. In freestyle, he was a 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Member, but failed to qualify internationally after falling in the semifinals of the 2021 World Olympic Qualification Tournament.
