Bearsuit
Bearsuit are an English art-rock/indie pop band from Norwich, England, active from 2001. Biography Bearsuit first came to public attention following their championing by Radio 1 DJ John Peel, and their debut single "Hey Charlie, Hey Chuck" was voted number four in the Peel programme's Festive Fifty of 2001. They recorded four Peel Sessions in 2001 and 2002 and their single "Chargr" was number two in the first Festive Fifty after Peel's death. After their third album ''oh:io'' in 2007, the band underwent a line-up change, swapped violins, flutes and horns for synths and guitars, brought in producer Gareth Parton (The Go! Team, Foals, The Breeders) and recorded the more pop-oriented album ''The Phantom Forest'' (released in 2011). Fantastic Plastic Records
Fantastic Plastic Records is an independent record label based in London and Brighton. Fantastic Plastic was formed by lifelong music fan Darrin Robson in a Co. Down attic. Originally specialising in mail-order only rare and collectible records, it soon grew into the opening of two independent local record shops before making the move to release the label's debut vinyl EP by Cork (city), Cork's finest The Sultans Of Ping FC in 1991. Further releases soon followed by bands such as Television Personalities (band), Television Personalities, The Blue Aeroplanes and Ash (band), Ash before the label relocated to London going on to work with bands such as Ikara Colt, Guillemots (band), Guillemots and The Futureheads. Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records is an American independent record label based in Athens, Georgia. Its catalogue features indie rock, indie pop and hip-hop music, with several of its artists associated with or influenced by The Elephant 6 Recording Company. History The label began as a compilation album, ''Happy Happy Birthday To Me Volume 1'', before it expanded into a 7" singles club, which released records by Of Montreal, Marshmallow Coast, The Essex Green, Great Lakes, and Masters of the Hemisphere, while also releasing several tape and CD compilations. The singles club was noted for its individuality, with each individual record by an artist often being different. Latitude Festival
The Latitude Festival is an annual music festival that takes place in Henham Park, near Southwold, Suffolk, England. It was first held in July 2006 and has been held every year since, apart from 2020, when it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2021, the festival went ahead as part of the government's live event pilot scheme, and was the UK's first full-capacity festival since 2019. The festival presents musicians, bands and artists across four stages - the Obelisk Arena, the BBC Sounds Stage, the Sunrise Arena and the Alcove. The festival also includes theatre, art, comedy, cabaret, poetry, politics, dance and literature. Fortuna Pop!
Fortuna POP! was an English independent record label based in London, started in 1995 by Sean Price. It specialised in indie pop music. Fortuna POP! previously promoted gigs under the banner of The Beat Hotel and then Basement Scam at the Buffalo Bar in Highbury, London and then promoted events under their own name. The label has been called an "indie institution". On 31 July 2016, initially via a full page statement in the programme of that summer's Indietracks festival, the label announced that it was to be shut down. The Great Escape Festival
The Great Escape Festival is a three-day music festival held in Brighton and Hove, England every year in May. It is operated by MAMA Festivals and showcases new music from a variety of genres. The festival was founded in 2006 and roughly hosts 300 bands across 30 venues throughout the city. It has been likened to South by Southwest. There is also a music industry convention section to the event, which is attended by over 3000 delegates. Hot Chip are an English synthpop band formed in London in 1995. The group consists of multi-instrumentalists Alexis Taylor, Joe Goddard, Al Doyle, Owen Clarke, and Felix Martin. They are occasionally joined by former member Rob Smoughton for live performances and studio recordings. Future of the Left are a Welsh alternative rock band based in Cardiff. The group consists of former Mclusky members Andrew Falkous (vocals, guitar) and Jack Egglestone (drums) and former Million Dead bassist Julia Ruzicka. Crystal Castles was a Canadian electronic music group formed in 2006 in Toronto, Ontario, formed by songwriter-producer Ethan Kath and singer-songwriter Alice Glass, who later left and was replaced by Edith Frances. Crystal Castles were known for their chaotic live shows and lo-fi melancholic homemade productions.
