Bear Valley Unified School District
Bear Valley Unified School District is a school district in San Bernardino County, California, supporting the towns of the Big Bear area such as Boulder Bay, Fawnskin, Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, Surgarloaf, etc. The district serves seven schools: Big Bear Elementary, North Shore Elementary, Baldwin Lane Elementary, Fallsvale Elementary (which is not in Big Bear), Big Bear Middle School, Big Bear High School, and Chautauqua High School (a continuation school). History Big Bear Elementary School is the first and oldest school in the Bear Valley. The school was called Big Bear School and it served students from K-12th grades. Later in 1948, the growth of the population made Big Bear build its first high school, which is now Big Bear Middle School. Big Bear Lake is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, located in the San Bernardino Mountains along the south shore of Big Bear Lake, and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. Fawnskin
Fawnskin is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California, United States. Its altitude is 6,827 feet (2,081 m). The community has a post office, which was established on May 18, 1918. History The small township was once an artists' colony, which attracted artisans, musicians, composers and actors from the Los Angeles area. Mountain travelers in the 19th century came to the Big Bear Valley through Fawnskin on the rough road by stagecoach and later motorcars. Several other names were temporarily chosen for the North Shore village including Bald Eagle Valley, Big Bear Village, Cline-Miller, Grout, and Oso Grande. The village has always been an attraction to vacationers seeking a retreat from city life in its mountain terrain. Several hundred homes are in the forested mountainside adjacent to the forest. Big Bear City
Big Bear City is an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, California, United States along the east shore of Big Bear Lake and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest. It is northeast of the city of San Bernardino, and immediately east of the incorporated city of Big Bear Lake. Its population was 12,304 at the 2010 census, up from 5,779 at the 2000 census. Big Bear City is mostly residential, with smaller houses and cabins laid out in typical square block fashion. Big Bear is on the Pacific Crest Trail. Standard Air Lines of Los Angeles began a regular airline service to the community in the summer of 1929. Its post office was founded as Van Duesen in 1927 but changed its name to Big Bear City six months later. The Big Bear City Post Office opened in 1928 and still operates. Big Bear High School
Big Bear High School is a high school in Big Bear City, California. It is the only conventional high school in the Bear Valley Unified School District. It was established as an institution in 1948 but has since moved to a new building. Athletics Big Bear High School offers programs such as Football, Baseball, Basketball (Boys and Girls), Volleyball, Softball, Wrestling, Golf, Tennis, Cross Country, and Soccer. Big Bear High is associated with the CIF program. Big Bear High fields a very competitive cross country team and football team for their division.
