Upajjana (''ᐅᐸᔾᔭᓇ'') formerly Beacon Island is an uninhabited island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada. It lies in the Cumberland Sound, at the mouth of the Pangnirtung Fiord, near Pangnirtung off Baffin Island's Cumberland Peninsula. Akulagok Island, Aupaluktok Island, Imigen Island, Kekerten Island, Kekertukdjuak Island, Tesseralik Island, Tuapait Island, and Ugpitimik Island are in the vicinity. Cumberland Sound
Cumberland Sound (french: Baie Cumberland; Inuit languages, Inuit: ''Kangiqtualuk'') is an Arctic waterway in Qikiqtaaluk Region, Nunavut, Canada. It is a western arm of the Labrador Sea located between Baffin Island's Hall Peninsula and the Cumberland Peninsula. It is approximately long and wide. Other names are ''Cumberland Straits,'' ''Hogarth Sound'', and ''Northumberland Inlet.'' Old Norse is ᚠᛁᛋᚦᚱᛁ ᚢᛒᚢᚴᚦᛁᛦ, fisþri ubukþiR. Small islands litter the stretch of water which was formed from glacial activity and meltwater produced from the receding glacier. The only settlement located on the shore of the sound on the Cumberland Peninsula is Pangnirtung, Nunavut, Pangnirtung. Imigen Island is an uninhabited island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada. It is located in Baffin Island's Cumberland Sound. Ivisa Island lies to its west, Saunik Island to its northwest. Kekerten Island
Kekerten Island is an uninhabited island in the Qikiqtaaluk Region of Nunavut, Canada. Southernmost of the Kikastan Islands, it is located in the Cumberland Sound, off Baffin Island's Cumberland Peninsula. Akulagok Island forms Kekerten Harbour with the island. Tuapait Island lies to the north. Beacon Island, Kekertukdjuak Island, Miliakdjuin Island, Tesseralik Island, and Ugpitimik Island are in the vicinity. Kekerten Territorial Park is located on the island. Scottish whalers had been fishing in the Cumberland Sound since the early 19th century and with the arrival of the American whalers in the 1850s winter stations were established. The Aberdeen whaler, Cpt. William Penny spent several winters around 1883–84 at Kekerten. The anthropologist Franz Boas similarly lived at the Kekerten settlement while studying Baffin Island for 13 months starting in August 1883.
