Beach Volleyball At The Pacific Games
Beach volleyball at the Pacific Games has been contested since 1999 when the sport was included at the Eleventh South Pacific Games held in Guam. Since that time, Beach volleyball has been one of the core sports of the Pacific Games, required to be included for both men and women in every games. It has also been included in some of the Pacific Mini Games, starting with the seventh edition held in Palau in 2005. The 1999 South Pacific Games, held in Guam from 29 May to 12 June 1999, was the eleventh edition of the South Pacific Games. Henriette Iatika
Henriette Iatika (born 19 June 1985) is a beach volleyball player from Vanuatu. Life and career Iatika was born in 1985 in Tanna, Vanuatu and currently resides in Port Villa. Iatika's first beach volleyball competition was in the 2006 Vanuatu Open, following which she was selected for the national team. Playing with Miller Elwin, she won silver in the 2007 Oceania Championship in Samoa and bronze in the South Pacific Games, also in 2007. In 2008 she won bronze at the U23 Championship in Australia and, with Miller Elwin, she placed third at the Queensland Open. She played in her first Swatch FIVB World Tour in March 2008 in Adelaide, Australia and won gold in the 2008 Oceania Championship in Tonga. In 2012 she won the silver medal (with Miller Elwin) at the Asian Beach Volleyball Championship. She won gold, with Joyce Joshua, at the 2012 Oceania Beach Volleyball Championships. Beach Volleyball At The Summer Olympics
Beach volleyball was introduced at the Summer Olympic Games in the 1992 Games as a demonstration event, and has been an official Olympic sport since 1996. The United States is the only country to win medals in every edition. Winning the Olympics is considered to be the highest honor in international beach volleyball, followed by the World Championships, and the World Tour of the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) for men and women. 2022 Pacific Mini Games
The 2022 Pacific Mini Games was held in Saipan, Northern Mariana Islands. It was the eleventh edition of the Pacific Mini Games and the first to be hosted by the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands. This event was originally going to be held in 2021, but was postponed to 2022 due to COVID-19 pandemic. Host selection The Northern Mariana Islands were awarded the rights to host the games on July 4, 2014 during the Pacific Games Councils General Assembly meeting in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. The decision was unanimous after the CNMI were the only bidder after the deadline. Venues and infrastructure Sports An initial twelve sports were scheduled for the games but this was reduced to six in 2019, following the impact of Typhoon Yutu. 2017 Pacific Mini Games
The 2017 Pacific Mini Games were held in Port Vila, Vanuatu, in December 2017. It was the tenth edition of the Pacific Mini Games, and the second to be hosted in Vanuatu (after the 1993 games). Host selection Vanuatu was awarded the right to host the games at a September 2011 meeting of the Pacific Games Council's General Assembly. Nauru and the Northern Mariana Islands were the other countries to bid. The event was originally planned for September 2017 but preparations were delayed by Cyclone Pam. Both rounds of voting took place on the 4 September 2011 with Nauru eliminated after the first round. In the final round, Vanuatu edged Northern Mariana Islands by 4 votes to earn hosting rights. Mata-Utu
Mata Utu (; ʻUvean: Matāutu, ) is the capital city of Wallis and Futuna, an overseas collectivity of France. It is located on the island of Uvéa (Uvea), in the district of Hahake, of which it is also the capital. It is one of two ports in Wallis and Futuna, the other being at Leava on Futuna. Koror
Koror is the state comprising the main commercial centre of the Republic of Palau. It consists of several islands, the most prominent being Koror Island (also ''Oreor Island'').
