Beach Volleyball At The 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's Tournament
The women's beach volleyball tournament at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan, took place at the Shiokaze Park. The competition was held from 24 July to 6 August 2021. It was originally scheduled to take place from 25 July to 8 August 2020, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the IOC and the Tokyo 2020 Organising Committee announced on 24 March 2020 that the 2020 Summer Olympics would be delayed to 2021. Because of this pandemic, the games were played behind closed doors. Twenty-four teams with 48 athletes from around the world competed for the gold medal. April Ross and Alix Klineman won the gold medal, defeating Taliqua Clancy and Mariafe Artacho del Solar in the final, while Joana Heidrich and Anouk Vergé-Dépré won the bronze medal. The medals for the competition were presented by  Mustapha Berraf, Algeria; IOC Honorary Member, and the medalists' bouquets were presented by  Ary Graça, Brazil; FIVB President. Shiokaze Park is a public park and was a temporary beach volleyball sport venue for the 2020 Summer Olympics, located in Tokyo, Japan. History Shiokaze Park opened on June 1, 1974. Melissa Humana-Paredes (born October 10, 1992) is a Canadian beach volleyball player, who is partnered with Brandie Wilkerson. Humana-Paredes won the women's gold medal with Sarah Pavan at the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships. Early life Born in Toronto, Ontario, Humana-Paredes is the younger daughter of two Chilean expatriates, ballet dancer Myriam Paredes and volleyball player Hernán Humaña, who was part of the national team and later coached Canadians John Child and Mark Heese to the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympics. Humana-Paredes started playing beach volleyball at the age of 12 and four years later, was already representing Canada internationally. Sarah Pavan
Sarah Lindsey Pavan (born August 16, 1986) is a Canadian beach volleyball and former indoor volleyball player. She was part of the Canada women's national volleyball team at the 2010 FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship in Japan. With Melissa Humana-Paredes she won the women's gold medal at the 2019 Beach Volleyball World Championships. College indoor volleyball career Pavan played college volleyball at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where she led her team to win the 2006 NCAA Division I women's volleyball tournament, in which she was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. Brandie Wilkerson
Brandie Wilkerson (born July 1, 1992) is a Canadian beach volleyball player who plays as a right-side blocker. With teammate Heather Bansley, she achieved a career-high world ranking of No. 1 in November 2018. She is the 2018 FIVB Best Blocker. She has also competed on the AVP. Early life Wilkerson was born in Switzerland and moved to Canada when she was seven. Her father Herb Johnson, né Wilkerson, is a former basketball player who was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers of the National Basketball Association. Heather Bansley (born September 13, 1987) is a Canadian beach volleyball player, playing as a left-side defender. She has been named FIVB Best Defensive Player of the World Tour in 2015, 2016 and 2018. University career Bansley played CIS volleyball for the Toronto Varsity Blues for five seasons from 2005 to 2010 where she was a member of the 2009-10 OUA champions.
