The beach handball competition at the 2022 World Games took place 11–15 July 2022, in Birmingham in United States, at the Sloss Furnaces. Originally scheduled to take place in July 2021, the Games were rescheduled for July 2022 as a result of the 2020 Summer Olympics postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sloss Furnaces
Sloss Furnaces is a National Historic Landmark in Birmingham, Alabama in the United States. It operated as a pig iron-producing blast furnace from 1882 to 1971. After closing, it became one of the first industrial sites (and the only blast furnace) in the U.S. to be preserved and restored for public use. In 1981, the furnaces were designated a National Historic Landmark by the United States Department of the Interior. and The site currently serves as an interpretive museum of industry and hosts a nationally recognized metal arts program. It also serves as a concert and festival venue. A new visitor center was built 2015 and opened in 2016. The furnace site, along a wide strip of land reserved in Birmingham's original city plan for railroads and industry, hosts thousands of students through their education programs per year. Beach Handball
Beach handball is a team sport where two teams pass and bounce or roll a ball, trying to throw it in the goal of the opposing team. The game is similar to standard handball, but it is played on sand instead of on a solid floor. Because the ball loses most of its bounce on sand, there is little to no dribbling, and players instead perform more passing as the rules of travelling still apply. Description Matches are played as best two-out-of-three sets. If teams are tied at the end of a regular set then the teams play for a golden goal. If the teams are tied at the end of 2 sets then the teams will participate in a tie breaker. The tie break involves a goalie throwing the ball to their own player while that player attempts to score one-on-one with the opposing goalie. During regular play, if the goalkeeper scores a goal this counts as two points, compared to a normal goal scored by an outfield player which counts as 1 point. 2022 World Games
The 2022 World Games were an international multi-sport event held from July 7 to 17, 2022, in Birmingham, Alabama, United States. They were the 11th World Games, a multi-sport event featuring disciplines of Olympic sports and other competitions that are not currently contested at the Olympic Games; the Games featured 3,600 athletes competing in 206 medal events over 30 sports. They were originally scheduled to be held in 2021, but were postponed by one year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021 European Beach Handball Championship
The 2021 European Beach Handball Championship was held in Varna, Bulgaria from 13 to 18 July 2021. The tournament was held at Varna's South Beach area, where four courts were. Format Men's competition starts in the Preliminary round with eighteen teams, split into two groups of five and two groups of four. Top three teams of each group advances to the Main round where they are split into two groups of six, while fourth and fifth teams are sent to the Consolation round in two groups of three. Top four teams in each group of the Main round advances to quarterfinals followed by semi finals and finals. 2022 Asian Beach Handball Championship
The 2022 Asian Beach Handball Championship was the 8th edition of the championship held from 22 to 28 March 2022 at Tehran, Iran under the aegis of Asian Handball Federation (AHF). It was the second time in history that the championship was organised by IR Iran Handball Federation. It also acted as a qualification tournament for the 2022 Beach Handball World Championships, with the top two teams in each gender from the championship directly qualifying for the event to be hosted by Greece.
