Be My Wife (1921 Film)
''Be My Wife'' is a 1921 American silent comedy film written, directed, and starring Max Linder. Plot As described in a film magazine, Max (Linder) is seeking the hand of Mary (Allen), but he has a rival and her Aunt Agatha (Rankin) objects to him. He disguises himself as a music teacher, but a dog "Pal" discovers him. Max falls over a fence and becomes unconscious. He dreams that he is married but cannot shake the aunt. There is a wife who suspects her husband of flirting and retaliates by picking a few lovers herself. Just as the marital difficulties are settled, Max wakes up. He then attempts to win over his sweetheart by impersonating a burglar in a terrific struggle with himself in an adjoining room while Mary, his rival, and Aunt Agatha listen to the fight. He steps forth "victorious and wins her hand, and the crabby aunt accepts him as her nephew-in-law. Claudine Rosalie Gras (1 January 1877 – 1 January 1936), professionally known as Rose Dione, was a French-American actress who appeared in numerous silent era and pre-code films. She appeared in more than 60 films between 1910 and 1932. She was born in Dardilly, Rhône in France, and died in Los Angeles, California. She was probably best known for her final role as Madame Tetrallini in the film ''Freaks'' (1932). Lincoln Stedman (May 18, 1907 – March 22, 1948) was an American silent film actor. Biography Stedman was born in Denver, Colorado, the only child to Marshall Stedman and silent film beauty Myrtle Stedman. Stedman had a career in films dating back to his boyhood in silent films with his parents. He appeared in more than 80 films between 1917 and 1934. Overweight as a teenager, Stedman resembled Roscoe Arbuckle which allowed him to convincingly play adult roles far beyond his years in real life. He was married to Carol Rohe Stedman. One month before his death of a heart-ailment, his daughter Loretta Myrtle Stedman was born. Lincoln Stedman died in Los Angeles, California and was buried at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Los Angeles.
