Bayou Teche Byway
The Bayou Teche Byway is a Louisiana Scenic Byway that follows several different state highways, primarily: * LA 31 and LA 182 along the west bank of Bayou Teche from Morgan City to Arnaudville; * LA 86 and LA 87 along the east bank of the bayou from Charenton to New Iberia; * LA 96 and LA 352 in a loop off of the bayou from St. Martinville to Henderson via Catahoula; and * LA 347 along the east bank of the bayou from Breaux Bridge Breaux Bridge (;Jack A. Louisiana Scenic Byway
The Louisiana Scenic Byways are a network of roadways within the U.S. state of Louisiana that have been deemed of cultural, historical, or scenic value. The routes follow various segments of the state-maintained highway system, usually rural in character, and are mostly located in the central and southern areas of the state. Louisiana Highway 96
Louisiana Highway 96 (LA 96) is a state highway located in southern Louisiana. It runs in an east–west direction from LA 182 in Broussard to LA 352 east of Catahoula. The route passes through St. Martinville, the seat of St. Martin Parish, located on Bayou Teche. It connects the city with U.S. Highway 90 (US 90), the main highway through the Teche region, just southeast of Lafayette. East of St. Martinville, LA 96 travels to the small community of Catahoula, which is located on Catahoula Lake at the edge of the Atchafalaya Basin. Louisiana Highway 31 (LA 31) is a north–south state highway in Louisiana that serves Iberia, St. Martin, and St. Landry parishes, extending from LA 182 in New Iberia, and ending at the same highway in Opelousas. Charenton, Louisiana
Charenton (historically french: Lieu-des-Chetimachas) is a census-designated place (CDP) in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,903 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Morgan City Micropolitan Statistical Area. According to legend, the community received its name from one of the earliest settlers of the region, Alexandre Frere. Frere, a native of Paris, reportedly exclaimed on his deathbed that "anyone choosing to move to that part of Louisiana belonged in Charenton!"
