Bayeux-Calvados Awards For War Correspondents
The Bayeux Calvados-Normandy Award for war correspondents (French: Prix Bayeux Calvados-Normandie des correspondants de guerre), previously the Bayeux-Calvados Awards for war correspondents, is an annual prize awarded since 1994, by the city of Bayeux and the Departamental Council of Calvados and now the Normandy Region in France. Its goal is to pay tribute to journalists who work in dangerous conditions to allow the public access to information about war. Details The award was launched as part of the fiftieth anniversary of the Normandy landings. It is awarded in Bayeux, one of the first French cities to be liberated in the Second World War, . The Bayeux Prize aims to raise public awareness of the profession of war reporter. Gamma is a French photo agency, founded in 1966 by Raymond Depardon, Hubert Henrotte, Hugues Vassal and Léonard de Raemy. Gilles Caron joined the agency shortly after its foundation. Gamma became a prestigious photojournalism agency: photographers who have worked at Gamma include William Karel, Georges Merillon, Chas Gerretsen, Catherine Leroy, Françoise Demulder and Emanuele Scorcelletti. In 1999, the agency was bought by Hachette Filipacchi photo group (GHFP), a division of Hachette Filipacchi Médias. Their name changed to the Eyedea group in March 2007, amidst reports that the agency was in financial distress. Jean-Paul Mari
Jean-Paul Mari (born 1950) is a French author and journalist. He was born in 1950 in Algiers, leaving his birthplace at the age of 11. He studied psychology and worked as a physiotherapist at a hospital in Toulouse. He has since done stints as a radio host, radio reporter and print journalist. Since 1985, he has been attached with ''Le Nouvel Observateur''. As a war correspondent, Mari has published hundreds of stories covering the world, including conflicts in more than three dozen countries. James Nachtwey
James Nachtwey (born March 14, 1948) is an American photojournalist and war photographer. He has been awarded the Overseas Press Club's Robert Capa Gold Medal five times and two World Press Photo awards. In 2003, Nachtwey was injured in a grenade attack on his convoy while working in Baghdad, from which he made a full recovery. Nachtwey has worked with ''Time'' as a contract photographer since 1984.
