Bay City High School is a public high school located on Texas State Highway 35 on the western edge of Bay City, Texas, United States. School The school opened a new campus in 2002. During the 2015–16 school year, there were 1,002 students enrolled in BCHS. Demographics at the school were as follows: White 24.0%, African American 15.3%, Hispanic 58.0%, Asian/Pacific Islander 1.3%, American Indian/Alaskan Native 0.2%, two or more races 1.3%. 58.9% were classified as economically disadvantaged. Academics For the 2015–16 school year, Bay City High School was rated "Met Standard" by the Texas Education Agency. The school offers a curriculum in line with Texas state standards. Bay City, Texas
Bay City is a city in Matagorda County, Texas, United States. The population was 17,614 at the 2010 census and 18,061 at the 2020 census. It is the county seat of Matagorda County. The current mayor is Robert Nelson. Geography According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and 0.12% is covered by water. Bay City was formerly named "Bay Prairie", as the natural ecosystems that surround the town are prairies crisscrossed by creeks that lead into the bay. Key Club
Key Club International, also called Key Club, is an international service organization for high school students. As a student-led organization, Key Club's goal is to encourage leadership through serving others. Key Club International is the high school branch of the Kiwanis International family, classifying as a Service Leadership Program and more specifically as a Kiwanis Youth Program. Many Key Clubs are sponsored by a local Kiwanis club. The organization was started by California State Commissioner of Schools Albert C. Olney and vocational education teacher Frank C. Vincent who work together to establish the first Key Club at Sacramento High School in California on May 7, 1925. Denver Broncos
The Denver Broncos are a professional American football franchise based in Denver. Hart Lee Dykes
Hart Lee Dykes Jr. (born September 2, 1966) is a former professional American football player who played wide receiver for two seasons in the National Football League (NFL) for the New England Patriots. He was awarded the Dial Award as the national high school scholar-athlete of the year in 1984. He played two seasons, and his career was cut short when he fractured his kneecap and because of an eye injury which occurred during a bar room fight that also involved teammate Irving Fryar in 1990. He was also drafted into the Chicago White Sox minor league system in 1989. Background He was the winner of the Pitch, Hit and Run competition as a 10-year-old. Joe DeLoach
Joseph ("Joe") Nathaniel DeLoach (born June 5, 1967) is a former American sprinter; the 1988 Olympic champion in the 200 m. Born in Bay City, Texas into a family with 11 sisters and one brother, DeLoach enjoyed running at a young age and desired to become a football player, but later set his mind to sprinting. He trained at the University of Houston, like Carl Lewis before him. During his career, DeLoach took part in one Olympiad, the 1988 Summer Olympics. He won the 200 m (beating his teammate from the Santa Monica Track Club, Carl Lewis, while placing fifth in the 100 m). The first performance was enough to qualify for the Games. There, he and Lewis were the favorites. In the final, DeLoach caught Lewis and finished in the Olympic record time of 19.75. LaBradford Smith
LaBradford Corvey Smith (born April 3, 1969) is an American retired professional basketball player. Career Smith went to Bay City High School in Bay City, Texas. He played collegiately at the University of Louisville before being selected by the Washington Bullets in the 1st round (19th overall) of the 1991 NBA draft. Smith played in three NBA seasons from 1991 to 1994. His best year as a pro came during the 1992–93 season as a member of the Bullets, when he appeared in 69 games and averaged 9.3 ppg. During the 1993–94 season, he was waived by the Bullets and spent the rest of the season playing for the Sacramento Kings. He later on played in the CBA and overseas. Forrest Clemenger Bess (October 5, 1911 – November 10, 1977) was an American painter and fisherman. He was discovered and promoted by the art dealer Betty Parsons. He is known for his abstract, symbol-laden paintings based on what he called "visions." Early life Bess was born on October 5, 1911, in Bay City, Texas to Arnold "Butch" Bess, an oil field worker, and Minta Lee Bess. Bess first experienced the "visions" he would use later in his art as a young child. His first introduction to oil painting were works done by a neighbor, and at thirteen years old he began lessons in painting from another neighbor.
