Baxter Summer Home
The Baxter Summer Home is a historic house on Mackworth Island, in Casco Bay off the coast of Falmouth, Maine. Now a centerpiece of the campus of the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf, the house was built in 1917–18 by James Phinney Baxter, and was given (along with the rest of the island) to the state by his son Percival, a two-term Governor of Maine best known for establishing Baxter State Park. The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. Description and history The former Baxter Summer Home is located near the center of Mackworth Island, a roughly circular island located just of the coast of Maine, and joined to it by a causeway. Most of the island is a state park, and open to the public. Baxter House (Gorham, Maine)
The Baxter House is an historic house museum at 67 South Street in Gorham, Maine, United States. Built in 1797, it was the birthplace of James Phinney Baxter, mayor of Portland, and also home to two-term Governor of Maine Percival Baxter. The house was donated to the town by James Phinney Baxter in 1907, and opened as a museum in 1908. It is open on select weekdays from June to August. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Description and history The Baxter House stands on the west side of South Street, a short way south of the town center, and immediately north of the Baxter Memorial Library. It is a -story wood-frame structure, five bays wide, with a side-gable roof, a single off-center interior chimney, and clapboard siding. Shubael Baxter House
The Shubael Baxter House is a historic house in Barnstable, Massachusetts. Built c. 1829 by a ship's captain, it underwent a major transformation into a Colonial Revival mansion in the early 20th century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987 for its architectural significance. Description and history The Baxter House is set prominently facing northeast at the southwest corner of Main Street and East Bay Road in the Osterville section of Barnstable. It is a large two story wood-frame structure, seven bays wide, with a stepped hip roof, clapboard siding, and corner quoining. Its dominant feature is a monumental entrance portico, which rises to form a rounded and dentillated arch at the roof line. Baxter–King House
The Baxter–King House is a historic house at 36 Heritage Road in Quincy, Massachusetts. The -story wood-frame house was built in the 1860s, and is one of the city's finest Italianate houses. The L-shaped house dominated by a three-story square tower with a shallow hip roof that has a bracketed and modillioned eave. An elaborately decorated entry projects from the tower. Windows are varied in shape, including round-arch windows with drip moulding, and single and doubled sash windows. The house was built by James Baxter Jr., whose daughter Helen married Theophilus King. King owned a leather business in Boston and was president of the Granite Trust Company. Stoothoff–Baxter–Kouwenhaven House is a historic home located in Flatlands, Brooklyn, New York City. It is currently located at 1640 East 48th Street in Brooklyn. History The original section was built in 1747 and the larger main portion dates to 1811. A kitchen wing was added in 1880. It is one and one half stories with steeply pitched gable roofs, curved projecting eaves, and end chimneys. The main entrance features a Dutch door. ''See also:'' It was relocated in approximately 1900 to align with the new street grid. One source states that the house "has actually been moved twice, probably by horse-drawn wagons. James Baxter House
The James Baxter House is a historic residence in the village of Amberley, Ohio, United States, near Cincinnati. Built in the 1800s and expanded in the 1930s, it retains much of its original architecture, and it has been named a historic site. The Baxter House is a brick structure with some weatherboarding and other wooden elements, set on a stone foundation and covered with a shake roof. A single- story porch shelters the center of the two-story facade, with the main entrance on the left side (as seen from the street) of the porch and two windows in the center and right side.
