Battle Of Valencia (cultural)
The Battle of Valencia was an identity conflict held in the Valencian society during the Spanish transition to democracy. It involved the progressive valencianism known as ''Fusterianism'' (named that way after intellectual Joan Fuster i Ortells) and the conservative anticatalanist regionalism known as ''blaverism''. Valencianist positions The positions associated with Valencianism have varied somewhat since the return to democracy, depending on the direction of the supposed "threat". Some Valencianists positions have become mainstream (e.g., the flag), some have lost their association with Valencianism (e.g., role of the autonomous institutions) while some have become more associated with valencianism, and more hotly debated (e.g., the Valencian language). Senyera Valenciana Preautonòmica
The Senyera (; meaning "pennon", "standard", "banner", "ensign", or, more generically, "flag" in Catalan) is a vexillological symbol based on the coat of arms of the Crown of Aragon, which consists of four red stripes on a yellow field. This coat of arms, often called ''bars of Aragon'', or simply ''"the four bars"'', historically represented the King of the Crown of Aragon. The senyera pattern is currently in the flag of four Spanish autonomous communities (Aragon, Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community), and is the flag of the historically Catalan-speaking city of Alghero (Catalan: ''L'Alguer'') in Sardinia. The Catalan Countries ( ca, països catalans, , ) refers to those territories where the Catalan language is spoken. The Generalitat Valenciana is the generic name covering the different self-government institutions under which the Spanish autonomous community of Valencia is politically organized. It consists of seven institutions including the ''Corts Valencianes'' (or autonomous Parliament), the President of the Generalitat, or the autonomous government itself (or ''Consell''). Peter III of Aragon ( November 1285) was King of Aragon, King of Valencia (as ), and Count of Barcelona (as ) from 1276 to his death. Blaverism
Blaverism ( ca-valencia, blaverisme, ) is a Spanish nationalist and Valencian regionalist ideology in the Valencian Community (Spain) that emerged with the Spanish transition to democracy characterised by strong anti-Catalanism, born out of its opposition to Joan Fuster's book ''Nosaltres, els valencians'' (1962), which promoted the concept of the ''Catalan Countries'' which includes Valencia. They consider Fuster's ideas as an imperialist Catalan nationalist movement that tries to impose Catalan domination upon Valencia. Blaverism takes its name from the blue ( ca-valencia, blava, link=no) fringe which distinguishes the Valencian flag from other flags with a common origin, particularly from the Catalan.
