Gareth James Edwards (born 13 July 1975) is a British filmmaker. He first gained widespread recognition for ''Monsters'' (2010), an independent film in which he served as writer, director, cinematographer, and visual effects artist. Space opera is a subgenre of science fiction that emphasizes space warfare, with use of melodramatic, risk-taking space adventures, relationships, and chivalric romance.
