Battle Of Georgia Landing
The Battle of Georgia Landing (or Labadieville or Texana) was fought October 27, 1862 in Labadieville, Assumption Parish, Louisiana, as part of the Operations in LaFourche District (1862), during the American Civil War. Background Maj. Gen. Benjamin F. Butler, commanding Union forces in the Department of the Gulf, launched an expedition into the Bayou Lafourche region to eliminate the Confederate threat from that area, to make sure that sugar and cotton products from there would come into Union hands and to secure it as a base for future military operations. He organized a brigade of about 4,000 men under the command of his protégé Brig. Gen. Godfrey Weitzel to accomplish the missions. Napoleonville, Louisiana
Napoleonville is a village and the parish seat of Assumption Parish, in the U.S. state of Louisiana. The population was 660 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pierre Part Micropolitan Statistical Area. 2nd Louisiana Cavalry Regiment
The 2nd Louisiana Cavalry Regiment was a unit of mounted volunteers recruited in Louisiana that fought in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. Breazeale's Cavalry Battalion was formed in July 1862 and was augmented by five additional companies in September 1862 to form a regiment. It served for the entire war west of the Mississippi River in the Trans-Mississippi Department. The regiment fought at Georgia Landing, Fort Bisland, Irish Bend, and Brashear City in 1863 and Henderson's Hill and Mansfield in 1864. 33rd Louisiana Infantry Regiment
The 33rd Louisiana Infantry Regiment was a short-lived unit of volunteers recruited in Louisiana that fought in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The unit was created by consolidating the 10th and 12th Louisiana Infantry Battalions near Donaldsonville, Louisiana, on 10 October 1862. Part of the regiment fought poorly in the Battle of Georgia Landing (Labadieville) on 27 October. Because the consolidation was deeply unpopular, Major General Richard Taylor broke up the regiment on 22 November 1862 and restored the two original battalion organizations. 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment
The 18th Louisiana Infantry Regiment was a unit of volunteers recruited in Louisiana that fought in the Confederate States Army during the American Civil War. The regiment began forming in October 1861, but did not reach its full complement of 10 companies until January 1862. It served throughout the war in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. In 1862, the regiment served at Shiloh, First Corinth and Georgia Landing (Labadieville). In 1863, it fought at Fort Bisland and campaigned in south Louisiana. In November 1863, the unit merged with the 10th Louisiana Infantry Battalion, creating the 18th Consolidated Louisiana Infantry Regiment. The new regiment served during the Red River campaign in 1864, fighting at Mansfield, Pleasant Hill, and Yellow Bayou. The regiment remained in Louisiana and Arkansas for the rest of the war, before disbanding in May 1865.
