Battle (song)
"Battle" is a song by UK garage musician Wookie featuring vocals from Lain. It was released on 31 July 2000 as the third single from Wookie's self-titled debut and only studio album (2000). Upon its release, the song reached number 10 on the UK Singles Chart and number 81 in the Netherlands. British newspaper ''The Guardian'' ranked the track at number one on their list of the Best UK Garage Tracks in 2019. Release and reception S2S and PIAS Recordings released "Battle" in the United Kingdom on 31 July 2000 as a CD and 12-inch vinyl single. Six days later, the song debuted at number 10 on the UK Singles Chart, becoming Wookie's first and only single to reach the UK top 30. The song also appeared on the Dutch Single Top 100, where it charted for one week at number 81 in September 2000. Critically, British trade paper ''Music Week'' called the track "innovative" and "distinctive", noting its crossover potential. Wookie (musician)
Jason Chue, better known as Wookie, is a UK garage musician. He scored a UK top 10 hit in 2000 with his song "Battle (song), Battle". Biography Chue's career began in 1991 as a producer for UK R&B/reggae artist Wayne Marshall (singer), Wayne Marshall, producing most of Marshall's debut album ''90 Degrees and Rising'' in 1994. Shortly after, Chue became writer/producer for Soul II Soul at their studio, working with Jazzie B for several years. He would also go on to produce for Dynamite MC and Doom Man. Chue has remixed tracks by Destiny's Child, Public Enemy (group), Public Enemy and Nas, among others. In the late 1990s, the 'Wookie sound' became apparent in his Bootleg recording, bootleg mixes of songs by Whitney Houston, Brandy Norwood, Brandy and Debelah Morgan. One of the original innovators of UK garage, Wookie scored a huge underground club hit in 1999 with "Scrappy". Dobie (musician)
Anthony Alexander Campbell, better known by his stage name Dobie, is a British alternative hip hop musician and producer. His nickname came about due to his resemblance to the character Dobie in the TV detective series Kodak. Early career Campbell worked as a skateboarder and photographer in the early 1980s. As a photographer, he photographed the skaters in South Bank, and the breakdancers in Covent Garden in the early 1980s. His musical career began in 1989, when he began working on NSO Force Organization tracks for the genre-spanning label Vinyl Solution. Soon afterward, he met Soul II Soul, after which Jazzie B recruited him to produce tracks on their debut album '' Club Classics Vol. One''. The Dutch Top 40 ( nl, Nederlandse Top 40) is a weekly music chart compiled by ''Stichting Nederlandse Top 40''. It started as a radio program titled "Veronica Top 40", on the offshore station Radio Veronica in 1965. It remained "The Veronica Top 40" until 1974, when the station was forced to stop broadcasting. Joost den Draaijer initiated the Top 40 in the Netherlands. The show currently airs on Fridays from 2 to 6 PM on Qmusic. Tomato is a multi-discipline design and film collective, founded in London in 1991 by Steve Baker, Dirk van Dooren, Simon Taylor, John Warwicker and Graham Wood, plus musicians Karl Hyde and Rick Smith of the electronic group Underworld and Colin Vearncombe, the artist also known as Black. Matthew James Firth Coleman, better known by his stage name MJ Cole, is an English garage DJ, record producer and remixer. Career Born in London, England, in his youth, Cole was classically trained on the oboe and piano, and won scholarships to both the Royal College of Music Junior Department and City of London School. Having graduated from City University, Cole began working at the drum and bass label SOUR, as a tape operator and sound engineer to the likes of Freq Nasty and Ed Rush.
