Bathgate Railway Station
Bathgate railway station is a railway station serving Bathgate in West Lothian, Scotland. Opened on 18 October 2010, it is close to the junction of the former Edinburgh and Bathgate Railway and the former Bathgate and Coatbridge Railway to the east of the Bathgate railway station (1986), 1986 station. Ticket gates are in operation. History In 2005, the Scottish Executive announced that the then-closed section of line between Drumgelloch railway station (1989), the 1989 Drumgelloch station and Bathgate would be rebuilt as a double tracked electrified railway, termed the Airdrie-Bathgate Rail Link. This resulted in the closure of the Bathgate railway station (1986), 1986 station, replaced by the present station, 34 chains (a little under half a mile) east of the former station. The link connects with the North Clyde Line at Drumgelloch and the Edinburgh to Bathgate Line at Bathgate, forming a fourth Glasgow to Edinburgh Lines, rail link between Glasgow and Edinburgh. Bathgate Railway Station (1986)
Bathgate railway station was a railway station serving Bathgate in West Lothian, Scotland. It was located at the western end of the Edinburgh–Bathgate line, Edinburgh-Bathgate Line. The station was 18½ miles (30 km) west of Edinburgh Waverley railway station, Edinburgh. History The station was opened in 1986 to serve Bathgate when the rail service from Edinburgh was re-introduced by British Rail. Next to the station was Bathgate goods yard. The yard was used to store and unload freight trains carrying new cars. This yard was located to the south of the present station. The goods yard – later the Bathgate car terminal – was moved slightly east in 1996 as the original site of the yard was occupied by various retail outlets. The 1986 station was sited on the location of the original Bathgate station, which became the town's goods station when Bathgate Upper opened (see link to OS 25-inch 1854 map). Bathgate
Bathgate ( sco, Bathket or , gd, Both Chèit) is a town in West Lothian, Scotland, west of Livingston and adjacent to the M8 motorway. Nearby towns are Armadale, Blackburn, Linlithgow, Livingston, West Calder and Whitburn. Situated south of the ancient Neolithic burial site at Cairnpapple Hill, Bathgate and the surrounding area show signs of habitation since about 3500 BC and the world's oldest known reptile fossil has been found in the town. By the 12th century, Bathgate was a small settlement, with a church at Kirkton and a castle south of the present day town centre. North Clyde Line
The North Clyde Line (defined by Network Rail as the ''Glasgow North Electric Suburban'' line) is a suburban railway in West Central Scotland. The route is operated by ScotRail Trains. As a result of the incorporation of the Airdrie–Bathgate rail link and the Edinburgh–Bathgate line, this route has become the fourth rail link between Glasgow and Edinburgh. British Rail Class 334
The British Rail Class 334 is a suburban electric multiple unit passenger train built by Alstom in Birmingham. They are part of Alstom's Coradia Juniper family of trains, along with Classes 458 and 460. The trains are operated by ScotRail and mainly run on the North Clyde Line on - Edinburgh, - and - services. However, they can also sometimes be seen on the Argyle Line on /Milngavie to /// services. They were ordered by SPT/ ScotRail (when part of National Express) for outer-suburban services in Glasgow. History Their introduction saw the withdrawal of the last of Glasgow's venerable Class 303 "Blue Train" sets which had been in service since 1960. The British Rail Class 380 '' Desiro'' is a type of electric multiple-unit train that operates on the National Rail network in Scotland, for ScotRail.
