Basumatary or Basumatari is a surname found among the Boro people of north-eastern India. Basumatary comes from the word ''Basumati-ároi'', meaning Earth-folk. The members of the clan cannot bury their dead or erect a funeral pyre without paying a token amount to Mother Earth through Basumatarys . Basumatary is derived from the Hindu earth goddess Basumati( Bhudevi ), consort of Varaha( third incarnation of Vishnu). She is the mythical mother of Boro people . The mythical dynasty of Boros, the Bhauma dynasty derived its name from Bhudevi/basumati. Bhauma dynasty was founded by mythical Bārā/Bara hari/Boro king Narakasura, the son of Baraha and Basumati. Rajni Basumatary
Rajni Basumatary is an Indian filmmaker and actress, best known for her role of Mary Kom's mother (Mangte Akham Kom) in the 2014 Hindi film ''Mary Kom''. Basumatary has written and produced the highly acclaimed feature film ''Anurag''. Her directorial debut '' Raag'' was released in all major cities in India in 2014. Basumatary is the director of the 2019 film ''Jwlwi - The Seed''. Early life and education Basumatary was born in a Boro family and hails from the town of Rangapara, Assam in northeast India. Bodo Sahitya Sabha
The Bodo Sahitya Sabha promotes the Bodo language and Bodo literature. It was founded under the presidency and leadership of Joy Bhadra Hagjer, at Basugaon, in the district of Kokrajhar, Assam on 16 November 1952. It consisted of representatives of Assam, West Bengal, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura and Nepal in abroad. Early work After India obtained independence, a critical mass of Bodo intellectuals realized the need for preservation of Bodo language. Many early Bodo authors studied in schools and colleges, where medium of instruction was either Assamese or Bengali. Bodo intellectuals felt that Bodo language must be preserved and developed at par with Assamese and Bengali languages. Hagrama Mohilary (born 1 March 1969) is an Indian politician who has served as the Chief Executive Member of the Bodoland Territorial Council. Mohilary was elected as the Chief of Executive Committee of the Bodoland Territorial Council which comprises thirteen other executive members. At present, he is the chairperson of the Bodoland People's Front, Mohilary had been the head of Bodoland Territorial Council since its inception in 2003. Boro (बर'/बड़ो ), also called Bodo, is a Sino-Tibetan language spoken primarily by the Boro people of India, Nepal and Bangladesh. It is an official language of the Indian state of Assam, predominantly spoken in the Bodoland Territorial Region.
