The basketball tournament at the 1977 Southeast Asian Games took place from November 21–25, 1977, at Stadium Negara in Kuala Lumpur. Tournament format Both the men's and women's tournament were in round robin format, where the top team at the end of the single round won the gold medal, and the next two teams the silver and bronze, respectively. 1977 Southeast Asian Games
The 1977 Southeast Asian Games ( ms, Sukan Asia Tenggara 1977), officially known as the 9th Southeast Asian Games, was a Southeast Asian multi-sport event held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 19 to 26 November 1977. This was the third time Malaysia hosted the games and its first since 1971. Previously, it also hosted the games for the first time in 1965. Brunei, Indonesia, and the Philippines were finally admitted into the SEAP Games Federation in February that year. Although the word 'Peninsula' was omitted from the new federation title to reflect the expansion, in which the games is the first games to bear the name, its emblem (which featured six rings representing the six founding members), and the sequential numbering of the games was kept to provide continuity, as well as reverence to the objectives, aspirations and contributions of the founders. Stadium Negara is an indoor arena located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Basketball At The 1979 Southeast Asian Games
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. A field goal is worth two points, unless made from behind the three-point line, when it is worth three. After a foul, timed play stops and the player fouled or designated to shoot a technical foul is given one, two or three one-point free throws. The team with the most points at the end of the game wins, but if regulation play expires with the score tied, an additional period of play ( overtime) is mandated.
