Basketball Federation Of Serbia
The Basketball Federation of Serbia ( sr, Кошаркашки савез Србије, Košarkaški savez Srbije) is a non-profit organization and the national sports governing body for basketball in Serbia. The organization represents Serbia in FIBA and the men's and women's national basketball teams in the Olympic Committee of Serbia. The Federation traditionally selects the Serbian Basketball Player of the Year. History Structure Managing board According to the Federation Statute, the Managing Board is constituted by the representatives elected through a semi-mandatory system. This means that a half of the executive body members is appointed by the President and the remaining four will be elected by The Federation Assembly. Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular Basketball court, court, compete with the primary objective of #Shooting, shooting a basketball (ball), basketball (approximately in diameter) through the defender's hoop (a basket in diameter mounted high to a Backboard (basketball), backboard at each end of the court, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Serbia Women's National Basketball Team
The Serbia women's national basketball team ( sr, Женска кошаркашка репрезентација Србије, Ženska košarkaška reprezentacija Srbije) represents Serbia in international women's basketball competition and is controlled by the Basketball Federation of Serbia. Serbia is currently the European Champions, and are ranked tenth in the FIBA World Rankings. It was known as the "FR Yugoslavia / Serbia and Montenegro women's national basketball team" until 2006. When Serbia became independent, it became the successor state to the Serbia and Montenegro and, therefore, the results of previous state and SFR Yugoslavia rightfully belong to it. Basketball At The 2016 Summer Olympics
Basketball at the 2016 Summer Olympics was the nineteenth appearance of the sport of basketball as an official Olympic medal event. It took place at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and was held from 6 August to 21 August 2016. The preliminary and knockout round matches for men were played inside the Carioca Arena 1 in Olympic Park which seated up to 16,000 spectators. The matches for women were played at the Youth Arena. This marked the first time that the men's and women's Olympic tournaments were played in multiple/separate venues. The host country Brazil failed to make it to the quarterfinals of both the men's and women's tournaments, after being eliminated from the group stage. Three countries in both categories took all of the medals: the United States (who took both gold medals), Serbia and Spain. 2014 FIBA World Championship
The 2014 FIBA Basketball World Cup was the 17th edition of the FIBA Basketball World Cup, the tournament previously known as the FIBA World Championship. Hosted by Spain, it was the last tournament to be held on the then-current four-year cycle. The next FIBA World Cup was held five years later, in 2019, to reset the four-year-cycle on a different year than the FIFA World Cup. The United States won their fifth world championship, after beating silver medal-winning Serbia in the Final. France claimed the third place, while Lithuania finished fourth in the tournament. Host selection FIBA opened the bidding process on 10 January 2008 and all the letters of intent were submitted on 30 April 2008. EuroBasket 2009
The 2009 FIBA European Championship, commonly called FIBA EuroBasket 2009, was the 36th FIBA EuroBasket regional basketball championship held by FIBA Europe. The tournament, which was hosted by Poland, began on 7 September and concluded with the final on 20 September 2009. The competition served as a qualification tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Spain claimed their first EuroBasket title by routing Serbia 85–63 in the final. Greece captured the bronze medal with a 57–56 victory over Slovenia. Dejan Tomašević ( sr, Дејан Томашевић; born 6 May 1973) is a Serbian professional basketball executive and former player. An All-EuroLeague Team selection on two occasions, he played with Borac Čačak, Crvena zvezda, Partizan, Budućnost Podgorica, TAU Cerámica, Pamesa Valencia, Panathinaikos, and PAOK, which he joined in September 2008. Predrag Bogosavljev ( sr-cyr, Предраг Богосављев; born June 27, 1959) is a Serbian basketball executive and former player. Playing career Bogosavljev played for the Crvena zvezda of the Yugoslav First League from 1976–1989. He is ranked 2nd for most games played (423), behind Slobodan Nikolić, and 7th for the most points scored (4,350) in the history of Crvena zvezda. He also played for the OKK Beograd with whom he won the Yugoslav Cup in 1993. National team career Bogosavljev was a member of the Yugoslavia national junior team that won the gold medal at the 1976 European Championship for Juniors in Spain. Dragan Đilas
Dragan Đilas ( sr-cyr, Драган Ђилас, , born 22 February 1967) is a Serbian businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Belgrade from 2008 to 2013. From 25 November 2012 until 31 May 2014, he served as the President of the Democratic Party (DS), the nation's main opposition party. As a member of the Democratic Party, Đilas served as the mayor of the Serbian capital city between 2008 and 2013. He served as the Minister without Portfolio in charge of the National Investment Plan in the 2007–2008 Cabinet of Serbia and prior to that as the director of the People's Office of the President between 2004 and 2007. Dragan Kapičić
Dragan Kapičić ( sr-cyr, Драган Капичић; born 7 August 1948) is a retired Serbian professional basketball player and executive. Club career Kapičić played with Crvena zvezda, in his hometown of Belgrade, in the Yugoslav First Federal League, from 1965 to 1977. His teammates were Zoran Slavnić, Ljubodrag Simonović, Dragiša Vučinić, and Vladimir Cvetković among others. With them, he won two Yugoslav National League championships, three Yugoslav National Cup titles, and one European-wide secondary level FIBA European Cup Winners' Cup (later called FIBA Saporta Cup) championship. He is Crvena zvezda's all-time club leader in total points scored. In the late stage of his club career, he played with Saturn Köln of the German League.
